This attractive rural holiday home, restored with care and character, offers peacefulness and sunny countryside with
not another house in sight and surroundings of low hills of chaparral.
Children
love it! The gardens have been planted with trees and flowering shrubs and a swimming
pool has been added. Just three hundred metres away is the delightful hamlet of
Monterroso.
A short private drive leads up to the property from the country road between Almogía
and Villanueva de la Concepción. The house is all on the ground floor with doors
leading out to the front terrace. There
are excellent views with El Torcal in the distance from the garden's barbecue
and covered dining area, which benefits from the wafting breeze.
Inside the house is fresh and colourful,
rustic in style thoughout. In some of the rooms the original flooring has been
retained with its red-and-white chequered tiles, the rest are terracotta.
Walls
are painted in a different colour in each room, matched up nicely with lively
bedspreads, curtains and tiles in bathrooms and in the kitchen. The various pictures
and ornamentations have been selected to fit in with with the atmosphere of each
room. Wood has been used for furnishing which is both sturdy and comfortable.
Special features include a simple wooden
hut for children in the garden at the back of the house, built there so that youngsters
may always have somewhere to play in the shade, and an outdoor stone oven, perfect
for cooking up a pizza or to roast a leg of lamb.
The owner has also planted
young trees and plants around the property. These are occasionally watered by
his father en route to taking his mule to graze nearby. Clients are welcome to
help themselves to a few of the delicious home-grown vegetables.
Monterroso is one of those small Andalusian
villages which still has the atmosphere of days gone by. Locals park chairs
on the street for a chat or a game of cards outside the only bar in town, which
doubles as a store selling basic provisions and bread baked by the owners in an
old wood oven.
The area is a great
place for anyone interested in bird life and nature in general. There are lots
of delightful walking paths all around. Restaurants are a 15-minute drive away
in Pastelero. Highly recommended for day trips are the beautiful drive to Antequera
via the extraordinary landscape of El Torcal and swims in the lake at the marvellous
setting of El Chorro.
