This small development of ten neat, one and two-bedroomed self-catering holiday cottages is set on a hillside overlooking Lake Viñuela close to the village of Periana. The views are truly spectacular.
Individual houses are simple and pleasant, built in modern-rustic Andalusian style. Floors are tiled, ceilings are wooden and beamed. Each has a garden porch or terrace (with a barbecue) on which to sit and relax, or dine al fresco. Inside there is a wood-burning stove, fans and radiators, a bathroom (with bath and shower) and an American style kitchen/dining area. Television and DVD players are standard in all cottages. Some have reverse cycle air conditioning, providing heat in winter and cooling in summer.
Common parts include landscaped areas, a very inviting swimming pool with its surrounding bathing terrace, sunbeds and umbrellas. Children are well catered for with table tennis, darts, table football, boules, a football area, swings, mountain bikes and pool all available.
The views are far and wide over the hilly Andalusian countryside, to Lake Viñuela, the mountain ranges and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. In the spring the surrounding area is covered in flowers rivalling any Alpine meadow. The entire little holiday hamlet is south-facing and sunny, but please note that the one-bedroomed apartments have mountain and valley views, not lake views.
Taken over by a new family in 2007, they have spent a lot of time and money upgrading the whole complex. The restaurant (set well away from the houses) has been refurbished and has an additional terrace, and now boasts an excellent Mediterranean menu cooked by professional chefs and a well researched wine list designed to complement the food.
The bar and restaurant terrace is the perfect place to unwind and serves a wide variety of wines and spirits as well as non-alcoholic drinks. Ideal for those days when you prefer not to cook, or just fancy a soothing drink watching the spectacular sunsets. There is a children’s menu and the play area is in front of the terrace, enabling you to keep an eye on them.
At the restaurant there is free wi-fi Internet access for guests who bring their own computers, and the whole site has excellent mobile phone coverage.
The parking area is now paved and bordered by pretty gardens planted with over 1,500 local plants and trees. The kitchen garden provides most of the organic herbs for the kitchen, as well as oranges, lemons and other fruits.
There is plenty to do in and around the development: mountain bikes are available for hire and horseriding is possible nearby. A drive of 25 minutes will get you to the sea and there are many splendid walks and cycle rides to be made nearby.
