This recently constructed, quality country villa is located
in the heart of the tropical valley of Benamargosa, a little more
than a kilometre from the pretty village of Cútar.
It's a wonderful location, not just because of the inspiring views, but because
the valley opens out not far from here (just beyond the village of Cútar)
to the Mediterranean Sea.
This gives it a very special microclimate, with
a cooling breeze taking the edge off extreme mid-summer temperatures and a pleasantly
mild, maritime climate in winter. Being inland, the surrounding mountains
protect the valley from the prevailing winds.
And, just to put the icing on the cake, the local village of Cútar is
not just another pretty, whitewahed village hidden in the middle of nowhere, but
a lovely, friendly place, too. There are about 500 people living here, almost
all of them working the fertile lands which surround the village, growing moscatel
grapes, mangoes, lemons and avocados. The rhythm of life is relaxed and tranquil,
in time honoured fashion. So near - and yet so far - from the bustle of the coastal
towns.
The house is fresh, bright and pleasant, with one or two traditional
elements incorporated into its essentially modern design. These include wooden doors
and ceilings plus the occasional rustic touch here and there adding a little
bit of country character and charm. Neat and tidy, the decoration is simple but
tasteful.
Underfloor central heating augments the wood burning stove in
the living room to keep it warm and cosy in winter months, but please note that you will need to pay for the electricity consumed.
With fantastic views all around, outdoor life here is a treat. Choose between
the little garden terrace, the shade of the porch, the suntrap which is the roof
terrace, or the irresistible (gated and fenced) saltwater swimming pool with
its surrounding terrace and loungers. A portable barbecue completes the outdoor
picture.
And notwithstanding that there are two other houses in close proximity
(one occupied by the property owners) there is a good feeling of
privacy and tranquility here.
Beyond the house there's plenty of possibilities too. The delightful hillsides
remains virgin with few fences, ideal for a country stroll or two, and why not
venture down to Cútar for a beer and a tapa in one of the two traditional
bars there?
For shopping, Benamargosa is a bigger village with more facilities,
five kilometres from here. The beaches at attractive resort towns like Torrox
and Nerja on the Costa Tropica are thirty minutes away by car.
