In a hidden corner of the Axarquía, off the road which winds up from the coast
to the reknown village of Cómpeta, lies this neat white villa with its inviting,
floodlit swimming pool. The villa comfortably sleeps four and the
sofa in the lounge also converts to a bed. It is fitted to an excellent standard.
From its high platform there are lovely
views of the surrounding mountain ranges, with small Andalusian villages clinging
to them, here and there. The Mediterranean Sea peeps through in the distance.
In this lofty position, the house stands alone amongst sloping
olive groves. With no neighbouring houses in the immediate area the atmosphere
is one of intimacy and cosyness.
The design is clean and simple which makes it light and relaxing both inside and
out. A large sitting room at the front, with a well-appointed kitchen to one
side, leads up a few steps to the bedrooms and bathroom at the back. Ceilings
are high and floors are laid with terraccotta tiles. This, together with quality
fittings and furniture, creates a harmonious ambience, a great place to rest and
recharge overworked batteries.
From
the living area the main door opens to a covered patio where a grapevine overhead
is growing fast, the best spot to view the sunset over the Mediterranean, perhaps
enjoying an ourdoor meal and the gentle mountain breezes at the same time. A small
but more protected and secluded terrace to one side is an ideal place to take
the sun during winter months. Inside, it's warm and cosy at this time of year,
too, with a glass fronted wood-burning stove efficient enough to warm the entire
villa.
The
pool area is well located, with the best views in the whole finca and enjoying
the sunshine from dawn until dusk. There is a garden of lemon, orange and olive
trees and, around the pool, plants add colour to what is already a very pretty
sight.
Accessed by a track
from the road which links Cómpeta and Sayalonga, the property has its own car port. The track is one kilometre long
and a lot of work has been carried out to improve its condition. There's just a 100 metre streach which requires slow, careful driving.
The closest restaurants
and bars, as well as many other amenities and facilities, are in Cómpeta which these days has an international community. Heading south, beaches
are just a 40 minute drive away. Closer to home there is plenty to do, too: walking,
painting, mountain biking, birdwatching, hiking - or just relaxing here under the wonderful Andalusian sun.
