Property Description
This delightful villa provides luxury accommodation in a really wonderful, countryside location, deep in the heart of the gorgeous Acedia Valley. It is a fabulous house, designed by a prize winning architect with a real understanding of what Mediterranean living is all about. Light floods in everywhere through huge glass windows, from above and below, from left and from right! Wherever you are in the house, lovely scenery comes into view.
The property's two and a half acre estate is really pretty too, beautifully maintained and full of colourful flowering shrubs, lemon, pomegranate and avocado trees. The well tended lawn is large enough to put a football pitch on! Views extend over these delightful gardens to the verdant and thickly wooded majesty of the surrounding bowl of mountains. It is stunning, one of the very best settings in Andalucía.
A wide 2 km track (in excellent condition) winds down the hillside from the little road which connects Casares to the coast, descending through this wonderful world of joyous countryside. One enters the estate (which is fully fenced) through electric security gates to a haven of peace and tranquility. There are no near neighbours, just sublime nature, picture-postcard views, sunshine and birdsong to keep you company!
Centrepiece in the gardens is the irresistible swimming pool (10 m x 5 m plus a circular children's pool) which gleams azure blue in the midst of the colourful flowers and shrubs which surround it. Quality sunloungers lie alongside on the grass and there are casual chairs around a table on the terrace surround. There's a large glass walled conservatory too, immediately alongside, where you can enjoy all the benefits of being outdoors on cooler, winter days.
Inside, everything has been designed to take full advantage of its wonderful location. Built on a series of inter-connecting, split levels, it is the owners' residence for some of the year and is consequently extremely comfortable, a proper home equipped with quality furnishings, rugs, books and pictures. Attention has been paid to every last detail, from its traditional, polished terracotta floor tiles right up to its immaculate, wooden beamed ceilings.
It's very spacious too. You can choose between three different living areas and two separate dining areas! The main living room is at the heart of the house, a relaxing space with comfortable leather sofas on three sides arranged around a glass coffee table in front of its huge and very stylish chimney, a TV (with full Sky service) alongside. With its high, wooden beamed ceiling and terracotta floor tiles, this is a cool and serene space. It opens at the front to an equally comfortable second living room, a lovely sun lounge which looks out to the pool and gardens from full length glass windows on three sides.
A few steps will take you up to the wide gallery which runs along the length of the main living room behind the chimney. This leads on in one direction to the fully equipped open-plan kitchen / dining room. Separated from the dining area by a breakfast bar, the kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven, four ring hob, dishwasher, microwave and American style fridge / freezer.
From the dining area glass doors open to a second dining room on a covered terrace which overlooks the pool and gardens below and enjoys fabulous views across the valley through its full length glass walls. Little steps from here will take you either up to a little roof terrace or down to the sun lounge below.
At the other end of the gallery a few more steps lead up to a very attractively furnished third living area, a perfect place to escape, to read a book perhaps. It looks over the main living room below and opens to another roof terrace, this one on the side of the villa overlooking the extensive lawns.
On the other side of a spacious entrance hall, a short corridor leads to a guest shower room / W.C. and to the master bedroom suite. This is a lovely, attractively furnished room with a four poster king-sized double bed, Sky TV, glass doors opening to the gardens and a large en-suite bathroom (with a bath tub and walk-in shower).
The other two bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded, are accessed by a stairway down from the gallery. They share a large bathroom (with double wash basins and a bathtub with shower over). Both bedrooms have double glass doors which open to the gardens. The laundry room (with washing machine, tumble drier, iron and board) is also on this floor.
It's a brilliantly designed house, one which uses all the architect's skills and intimate knowledge of Mediterranean design. Lofty double-story ceiling heights and stepped floor levels give the interiors an open, spacious feeling and makes the best use of the wonderful Andalusian light. A variety of terraces and outdoor living spaces offer a multitude of different ambiences to choose from, whatever your mood, whatever the time of day … or night.
And very comfortable too, with all mod-cons, including full central heating and air conditioning throughout. Note, however, when using the central heating or air conditioning, that electricity consumed will be charged to you (at cost price) at the end of your stay.
Deep in this picturesque sweep of delightful countryside, the location is superb too, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the lovely white village of Casares.
Casares is five kilometres away, a spectacular hilltop village steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view clear across the sea to Africa.
There is an interesting variety of out-of-town tavernas in the countryside around and about. "Arroyo Hondo", just a few minutes drive from the villa is highly recommended. Owned by an English and Japanese couple, their food combines the best of both cultures and is delicious.
Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than twenty minutes away. A popular, all year round holiday destination, there is still plenty of evidence of its fishing village past: picturesque squares, traditional buildings and unpretentious tapas bars.
Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and in the opposite direction, Gibraltar, are 40 minutes away. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is the recently opened, championship standard course "El Cortesin", just ten minutes away from the villa.
With beautiful countryside all around, there are lots of lovely walking trails on your doorstep which ramble through the pine, olive and cork-oak forests in the hills around the valley. A very popular bird-watching area, (on the migratory route from the Straits of Gibraltar) there is a spectacular Griffin vulture feeding ground close-by. Horse riding can be arranged locally too.
If you head inland, the timeless beauty of some of Spain's most impressive Natural Parks awaits you. There are lots of charming towns and villages to discover along the way - Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting. The great historic cities of Andalucía, Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba are between two and three hours drive.
A great location, style and comfort throughout the villa, lovely gardens, the Sierra Bermeja mountain range as a stunning backdrop … this is a very special and relaxing place to stay.
