Property Description
This villa is what Mediterranean living is all about! Luxury accommodation in a really wonderful countryside location, deep in the heart of the gorgeous Acedia Valley.
The setting is divine, standing alone amid glorious, peaceful nature surrounded by thickly wooded hillsides. The mountain peaks of La Sierra Bermeja climb up majestically behind, the river flows gently through the valley below. It really doesn't get any better - or more beautiful - than this!
Superb gardens surround the villa too, with immaculate lawns both to the front of and on each side of the villa, and colourful flower beds, joyful climbers and magnificent, mature trees everywhere. As you approach the house through its electronic security gates and the private driveway which leads up to the ample parking area, you just know you have arrived at a very special place.
Brilliantly designed (by the same prize winning architect who created so many outstanding houses in this valley) his understanding of what Mediterranean living is all about really comes to the fore here. Light floods in everywhere through huge glass windows and everything opens to the glorious gardens outside with a wealth of little terraces and private patio spaces to choose from.
Three of which look down to the magnificent 15 metre diameter, circular swimming pool just a few steps down from the villa. It's a gorgeous sight, its azure blue waters offering splendid contrast to the verdant greenery all around. Quality sunbeds offer views across the gardens and the wide, sweeping lawns to the mountains beyond.
Lying under the Spanish sun is, as we all know, hard and thirsty work but just a few short steps will take you to the pool bar and barbecue housed in a splendid open air conservatory. Comfortably furnished with cane sofas and armchairs, it has a dining table for six and a kitchen area equipped with a fridge and drinks cooler for those all important refreshments!
There are two barbecues, a built-in charcoal one and one of the biggest free-standing gas-fired barbecues we have ever seen. There is night lighting and, of course, the pool and gardens all light up at night too.
Behind the pool house is the perfect "granny flat", a self contained apartment with a large lounge, two bedrooms (one double, one twin bedded) and bathroom with walk-in shower. Ideal, not just for grannies but also, perhaps, for teenage children who prefer a little distance between them and their parents (or is it the other way around … ?), or for a second family to enjoy a little privacy from time to time.
Both have double glass doors which open to a verandah with gorgeous views. And, as in the main house, there are heating / air conditioning units throughout and double glazing on all windows and glass doors.
Returning to the main house on the other side of the pool, there are two delightful ground floor shaded terraces to enjoy, both overlooking the pool and rear gardens. The wide corner terrace (which opens from the kitchen) with its round Moroccan table and comfortable easy chairs, is a perfect place to enjoy both a morning orange juice and those early evening sundowners whilst surveying the beauty all around.
Just around the corner, another big terrace opens from the living room. This one comes with a comfy 3 seater bamboo sofa and two matching armchairs. And from here stairs lead up to a roof terrace. Views extend far and wide.
Inside, the kitchen is spacious and well equipped with a full range of quality appliances. These include an American-style fridge/freezer/icemaker, eye-level electric oven, 5 ring gas hob, dishwasher and wine rack. There's ample opportunity to be happily creative in here.
The kitchen leads through to a spacious and - with its top-of-the-range wood burning stove - cosy and comfortable living room. Two dark brown leather sofas are gathered at one end of the room around a glass coffee table in front of the huge, 44" flat screen TV (with free-to-view satellite programmes). There is full surround sound, DVD player and a Hi Fi. The house also enjoys very fast WiFi internet access.
A small dining table (seating six) occupies the other side of the room. With windows along one side and glass patio doors on the other side of the room opening to the terrace, it's a light and airy room under its high wooden-beamed ceiling. With the patio doors open, the breeze keeps it delightfully cool and fresh in summer.
The main dining room (which seats ten) is alongside, another lovely room which also opens to its own terrace and the gardens beyond.
The master double bedroom suite is also on this floor. It has a super king-sized bed and an attractive, semi-open plan en-suite bathroom (with both a bathtub and walk-in shower), private dressing room and a little private terrace which also enjoys lovely views across the gardens.
From the living room stairs lead down to the lower floor where there are two more bedrooms. One is twin bedded, complete with a TV and DVD; the other is double bedded (also super king-sized). Both have walk-in shower rooms immediately alongside and both have doors opening out to private terraces.
Also on this lower floor there is a proper wine cellar, an attractive little Moroccan reading or sitting room, complete with original Arabic door and furnishings, and a boot room where riding equipment and other sporting equipment can perhaps be stored.
The villa is completely secluded, with no near neighbours (just one other villa can be seen, far, far away in the distance), surrounded by nothing but the joyous gardens and sublime nature.
The 10,000 m2 estate (which is completely fenced, by the way) includes a huge vegetable garden, an orange grove and fruit orchards as well as a fabulous football pitch complete with two goal nets. The original owner was a botanist and it shows … it is always beautiful and flourishing whatever the time of year.
If you can be tempted away from this countryside paradise there are a million things to do in this glorious corner of Southern Spain. Close at hand there's excellent horse riding offered by the stables just a short walk down the lane; the walking terrain all around this beautiful valley is second to none and ideal for mountain biking too.
It's an ideal location for bird watchers and nature lovers, with the largest griffon vulture roosting and nesting site in Southern Spain nearby. Other birds overhead include eagles, buzzards, falcons, choughs and bee-eaters. This is one of the main European bird migration routes and flocks of honey buzzards and storks are regularly seen during the spring and autumn. Ibex are seen virtually every day on the higher mountain crags, while roe deer and wild boar are often seen on the lower slopes.
Some of the best little restaurants and little tavernas anywhere in Andalucia are all located on this side of Casares village - Arroyo Honda, Venta Garcia, Venta Victoria and the Forge. The first two are especially highly recommended. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is "Finca Cortesin", a five star golf and spa resort which was host to the Volvo Masters Matchplay Championships, just ten minutes away from the villa.
Heading inland, the timeless beauty of some of Spain's most impressive Natural Parks awaits you, with lots of charming towns and villages to discover along the way. Nearby Casares, Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting.
All this, and the beaches of the Costa del Sol are less than 15 minutes away!
Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more a quarter of an hour from here. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 40 minutes.
Casares is five kilometres away, a spectacular hilltop village steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view clear across the sea to Africa.
The great historic cities of Andalucía - Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba - are between two and three hours drive.
A great location, and with class and comfort in abundance throughout the property and its beautiful gardens, this is a unique and very special holiday villa.
