The Hotel "Casa Morisca" is absolutely beautiful, authenticly Moorish, "the accommodation of your dreams".
A fabulous old house which dates back to Moorish times in the 15th Century,
it is situated in the historic district of the lower Albaycín at the foot of
the Alhambra Palace.
Built around the magnificent central patio with its original Morisco pool, on
all four sides there are galleries supported by pilasters and columns. This ancient
interior, was given a new street façade in the 17th Century.
All the
magic and artist creativity of the great Islamic dynasties are reflected here:
stucco-work arches, panels of original Morisco coloured tiles and multicoloured
wooden ceilings. The breakfast room has an impressive barrel vault of brickwork
and the patio garden is a delightful place to have a drink while enjoying a superb
view of the great Comares Tower of the Alhambra.
There are just fourteen rooms, each
one individually decorated, furnished with all modern comforts, and there are
stunning views of the Alhambra and Generalife from many of them. Each has TV,
mini-bar, a fully equipped bathroom (with hairdryer), air conditioning and internet
connection.
A great place to stay, and a first-class location too, within
the wonderful old Moorish quarter of Granada, with its maze of narrow, twisting
streets and flower-filled Carmens. El Albaycín straddles its own hillside
and offers some of the most stunning views to be seen in any city in the world:
of the Alhambra Palace on the opposite rise, the snow-clad peaks of Sierra Nevada
immediately beyond, and of the great Gothic buildings within the city itself,
spreading out below. It's a short stroll down from the hotel, passing alongside
the River Darro, to the centre of town.
