Deep in "Driving over Lemons" country, this attractive house looks out far and wide over the Guadalfeo river valley.
The original farmhouse is over 100 years old. It has been renovated to a high standard keeping its traditional Andalusian style.
Recently fitted-out and pleasingly decorated it is one of the prime holiday homes to be found in the pretty, quiet and semi-tropical Tíjola area outside Órgiva.
Driving through Tijola you are greeted by purple and pink bougainvillea, banana trees and large date palms as well as olive, orange, lemon and lime trees, grapes and figs. It's blissful countryside.
When the country lane peters out, an unmade track (passable in a normal car, not a low clearance / sports car) leads up to private parking at the house, nicely situated to take advantage of wonderful views and to catch the delicious breeze.
The cortijo (farmhouse) is painted a soft sandy yellow and the water of the generously-sized swimming pool glistens blue in the sun. There is plenty of living space and several terraces to enjoy both the morning and the evening sun.
A covered porch, one of three shady spots around the house, serves as the entrance-way to a large, stylish dining area by the kitchen. This entrance porch and patio captures the rising sun and is a wonderful place to take your breakfast.
From the kitchen and dining area, two steps up takes you to the open-plan and comfortably furnished living area (with an efficient wood burning stove). Double doors lead outside. There's a DVD and a TV to play them on.
A couple of steps either side of the main room lead to the bedrooms. The master double has an en-suite bathroom; the second bedroom is particularly spacious and can sleep two adults and a child.
A third bedroom, which is also a double, has a comfortable sitting area which looks out through french style doors to the valley below. This and the master bedroom both lead out to a shady rear terrace. This has more wonderful views and is a great place to enjoy evening meals or drinks and watch the sunsets.
Between the master bedroom and the third bedroom there is an extra utility space which is a boon for storing luggage.
Inside the style has lots of charm, including wood beams throughout and tastefully chosen floor tiles. Both main bedrooms and the living area now have air conditioning / heating units.
Outside, the garden flanks the large swimming pool (with steps, ladder and a handrail). With pretty, colourful flower beds surrounding the lawned approach to the splendid, azure-blue pool, it's like an oasis, offering splendid contrast to the mountain scrub all around.
The location remains interestingly semi-wild, the untamed mountain beginning immediately you step outside the property. You really feel pretty much out on your own here; that's if you don't count the wildlife that includes badgers, foxes, ibex, eagles and buzzards!
From the door you there is direct access to a foot path which links the higher mountain villages should you want the challenge, or just for a stroll up to view the valleys from above.
One guest suggests that you "make sure you walk from the house up into the next valley, it's absolutely spectacular". And keen walkers will want to tackle the seven kilometre trek through Tijola to Orgiva.
Just make sure you return before it gets dark!
For those who want to take life a little easier, the light is great for photography, and the views are worthy of painting.
The nearby market town of Órgiva has several small but well stocked supermarkets and a market every Thursday morning. Typical local food is served in its bars and several restaurants. There is a good pizzeria in town, with a summer orange grove to dine in, popular with tourists and locals alike.
Granada, less than an hour away, is an amazing city of unique shops, an Arab quarter, cafes and restaurants and, of course, the famous Alhambra Palace, with its fantastic architecture and ancient, beautiful gardens dating back to the 11th century.
The Sierra Nevada ski slopes near Granada are about an hour and twenty minutes away. Among Europe's highest resorts it has a long season, normally from the end of November to the end of April or even into May.
Beaches to the south at Salobreña are about a 35 minute drive from here. Or you can travel a little further on to Almuñecar and La Herradura on the Costa Tropical, or to Nerja on the Costa del Sol.
If you prefer something a little more active, there is no better place anywhere to walk, climb, cycle or horse ride than in the magnificent mountain scenery of Las Alpujarras.
Enjoy, too, the eight centuries of Moorish heritage in the traditional, white-washed, high mountain villages.
Clients have remarked "this is just to say how much we enjoyed are stay. The house is well appointed and we did lots of walking, the area is absolutely breathtaking and peaceful".
Weather permitting, the swimming pool will be open from May to the end of September.
The track is passable in a normal car, but not suitable for low clearance / sports cars.

The plumbing system is biological and therefore cannot process non-biodegradable hygiene products such as sanitary towels and cotton buds. Bins are provided
We do not consider this property to be suitable for children under the age of five (apart from babies not yet walking)
