Review Icon"Great property & location. Quiet but few minutes easy walk to restaurants, bars & local shops. Loved Gaucin with access to mountains, larger towns & beaches not far to drive to. Off road parking was not an issue. As temperatures were very hot, having a pool to use & the air conditioning was a real bonus with this property. The modern apartment facilities were good alongside the older charm of the village, with lovely, far reaching views from the large balcony. Very clean. "

Villa Description

A wonderful panorama

Views extend from the pretty white village (with its Moorish castle on high), beyond the dramatic Crestellina Ridge to the Mediterranean and Africa beyond.

This thoroughly modern duplex apartment is a delightful place to stay. It is part of a recently completed, quality private development (which comprises six luxury apartments and two houses in total) in the centre of lovely Gaucín village.

Facilities include a gorgeous shared swimming pool and garage parking which is a huge benefit, particularly when the village is busy during fiestas and in summer.

South facing, the apartment takes full advantage of the magnificent, panoramic view which unfolds in front of you, the pretty white village (with its Moorish castle on high) away to the left, the dramatic Crestellina Ridge rising up from the surrounding hills, the Rock of Gibraltar in the distance with the Mediterranean and Africa beyond.

Ever changing, it's a view that is always inspirational.

Luxury apartment

Crisp and uncluttered, white predominates with dark wood and colourful fabrics offering attractive contrast.

One enters to the main living area, a large and very welcoming space, its design and layout clean, crisp and uncluttered. White predominates with dark wood and colourful fabrics offering attractive contrast.

One end contains a modern and well equipped kitchen area with built in dishwasher, eye-level oven and microwave. An island with a ceramic hob completes this part of the room with a dining table, which seats six, just beyond.

At the other end of the room is the sitting area, a comfortable white sofa (which can convert into a double bed) and two armchairs gathered around a wooden coffee table in front of the glass fronted fireplace and the satellite TV/DVD player.

Sliding glass doors open to the splendid open terrace, which runs along the entire length of the room, a great spot for eating out on long summer nights, taking in the view over the village roof tops to the castle (floodlit at night), the mountains rising up behind and the twinkling street lights of Morocco sometimes visible far away across the sea.

Large and inviting

The gated swimming pool is shared with the other apartments in the development.

Stairs go down from the living room to the two bedrooms, one double master bedroom (with a four poster bed) and one twin bedded.

Both feature beautiful views, large dressing areas and well appointed, stylish en-suite bathrooms. En suite to the master bedroom has both a large bath and a separate shower cubicle, twin basins and W.C. En suite to the second bedroom has a shower cubicle, basin and W.C.

Both bedrooms open to a lower terrace which also runs the entire length of the apartment. This one is shaded.

From the lower, covered terrace steps lead down to the gated swimming pool which is shared with the other apartments in the development. The pool is large, inviting and surrounded by a terrace with sunbeds, a pool shower, fridge - and exercise bikes too.

"We had a wonderful time"

Sun and sand, history and culture are all close at hand and there's lots to enjoy right here in pretty Gaucín village.

There are lots of extra touches which will make your holiday complete: everything has been designed to provide a beautiful living environment. Central heating and air conditioning throughout and double glazed windows ensure year round comfort; pool towels are included, and the DVD player accepts all regional codes so wherever you come from, your DVD's will work here.

And one is struck by how beautifully quiet the apartment is, just one of the benefits of excellent insulation. The English house manager lives nearby and is on hand for meeting and greeting, local information etc.

Gaucín is one of the classic white village of Andalucía, spectacularly situated in the mountains behind the Costa del Sol in the Serrania de Ronda.

There are fabulous views at every turn. Its narrow streets house four supermarkets and a traditional butcher, an organic food shop, banks (cashpoints) and a pharmacy. Within walking distance of the apartment are a variety of small restaurants and tapas bars, one of which hosts regular flamenco performances.

Being in the village, it's easy to stroll out to one of the excellent restaurants here, and there's plenty to do close at hand quite apart from enjoying the village and its wonderful views: whether you want to explore the wonderful nature, breathtaking vistas and first class hiking of the Serranía de Ronda (guided walks, bird watching and horse riding can be arranged), discover the culture and traditions of historic Ronda, or enjoy the beaches and golf courses of the Costa del Sol, there's something for everyone.

Beautiful Mediterranean beaches are only 30 minutes away by car. The wilder, white beaches of the Atlantic coast, on the Costa de la Luz, are about 1½ hours drive away.

But you may be tempted to stay right here … as one of our clients remarked, "we had a wonderful time and found the property above expectations, well situated, very well appointed and beautifully maintained. We were thrilled when the mist cleared and our view then included Gibraltar, the sea and over to Morocco. We only took the car out once, there was enough to amuse us within Gaucín. Thank you".

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
