Review Icon"Thank you for a truly wonderful week, this has been by far the most relaxing family holiday we have ever had. This incredible house and fabulous pool have provided all the entertainment our three children needed, and as we reluctantly return home, we take with us wonderful memories of this breathtaking scenery, of the changing light on the mountains, the starry skies and the blisssful silence."

Review Icon"This was the most spectacular and enjoyable property we have ever stayed in. We can't fault anything and after nearly two decades of family holidays this is the first property we would wish to return to. We wanted spectacular scenery and peace and were not disappointed. The tuned grand piano was a treat and as keen swimmers we made full use of the longest swimming pool we have ever rented and are much fitter in consequence. The owners are delightful and informative hosts and as well as ensuring that our stay in the house was trouble free, came up trumps in response to some bizarre requests. This property cannot fail to enchant you!"

Review Icon"We have been two families with six kids staying here for a week. The kids loved the pool and spent most of the days swimming and playing. Their parents also enjoyed walking and (in early morning) jogging in the beautiful, unspoiled scenery. Each evening we enjoyed a drink while watching the sun set in the fantastic scenery on the northern side of the house. The villa itself is beautiful and impressive and really feels luxurious. It is a remote and beautiful setting, perfect if you want to relax and explore nature. Yesterday we had Maria cooking paella, good food and nice company, recommended! Thanks to the owners for hospitality, helpful information, and for sharing their place with us! "

Review Icon"ZC25 is a delightful country villa which is actually better than in the photos. The villa is large and spacious with all the bedrooms well spaced so you do not get any noise from other bedrooms. The villa is on top of a hill with great views and you are not overlooked from any direction. It is very quiet and the only noise comes from songbirds and the occasional eagle. The swimming pool is lovely and is the biggest private pool I have seen with the added benefit of a cover if the weather is a bit cool. I highly recommend this villa for a relaxing holiday. "

Review Icon"Our two week stay was really wonderful and exceeded our expectations. This is a beautifully designed country home in a serene and very pretty area. The owners made sure we had everything we needed from firewood to local information and restaurant recommendations. Cooking in the kitchen was a delight and the pool area is fantastic and the kids had a ball. Sitting on the terrace to eat lunch was a daily treat as was lighting a fire in the big yet welcoming living room. We would recommend this house to two families or big groups as there were plenty of bedrooms each with their own attractive ensuites. All in all a happy wonderful stay."

Villa Description

Panoramic mountain views

Thickly wooded hillsides and dramatic mountain scenery beckon. It's a fabulous location with nothing but glorious nature all around.

Situated within its own incredibly beautiful 60 acre countryside estate, this villa combines the very best of traditional and modern comforts. It's a quite remarkable property, the labour of love of its architect / designer owner who has a keen eye for the spectacular and the sumptuous.

The icing on the cake is its fabulous location with nothing but glorious nature all around. It doesn't matter which direction you are facing, thickly wooded hillsides and dramatic mountain scenery beckons.

Looking across a vast sweep of rolling green hills and forests of cork, carob and wild olive, there's not another house in view. It's both magnificent and truly inspirational.

Walk out across the estate for a morning's stroll, look out for deer, partridge, soaring eagles and hawks, wonderful wildflowers ...

Proud and spectacular

This is a house with a 'wow' factor. The capacious living room needs to be seen to be believed; it's vast, both in size and height.

Constructed as a ‘no expenses spared' family home using the architect's own unique combination of European and Moorish styles, the villa does its fabulous location proud.

He doesn't like corridors and you won't find any here … the design features a really huge central living space with the other rooms - bedrooms, kitchen etc. leading off on three sides. The fourth opens to the wide terrace and gardens with the magnificent swimming pool just beyond.

Characterised by high-pitched ceilings, spacious rooms and quality features, it is a very special property.

Inside, the main focus of the house is the capacious central living space.

This living / dining room needs to be seen to be believed; it's vast, both in size and height. Light pours in through tall windows, revealing comfortable sofa seating around its huge fireplace and also to one side where the satellite TV is hidden away in a cabinet.

A grand piano has its own space as does the long and very beautiful refectory dining table.

Comfortable and relaxing

Antique furniture pieces and splendid original paintings combine beautifully with intricate Moorish influences

It's a perfect construction which has been cleverly divided into varying environments for games, reading and dining. There are some outstanding antique furniture pieces and splendid original paintings, and a very obvious Moorish influence too, with intricate tilework, arched doorways and cabinets and a vast central ceiling lamp.

French doors on either side of the fireplace open to the terrace and garden spaces and to the pool outside.

All on one floor, the other rooms lead off: a big, well appointed kitchen, the laundry room and one of the double bedrooms are to one side; the other two double bedrooms are accessed from the opposite side of the living room.

These are all very spacious rooms; two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, the other one has a bathroom alongside.

Two, only slightly smaller, twin bedrooms (also with en-suite bathrooms) are either side of the main entrance hallway.

There is a small room with low ceilings on the mezzanine floor above the living room. It is accessed by an attractive spiral stairway.

The double bedrooms all have their own glass fronted fireplaces so you certainly won't feel the winter chill here, not least because there is central heating throughout the villa (and air conditioning too).

Balmy summer evenings

The pillared awning on the main sun terrace looks out across the pool and is the perfect spot to enjoy al fresco dining

Bathrooms feature intricate mosaic tiling and one of them has a gorgeous sunken bath which is big enough to fit half a rugby team in!

When it comes down to the little details of daily life, everything works splendidly.

Details like instant hot water throughout the house, power pumps which maintain perfect pressure no matter how many people are showering at the same time, a filtration system for the drinking water (so, there's no need to purchase bottled water). A huge water deposit ensures that, no matter how little it rains in Spain, there will always be plenty on tap here.

A wide sun terrace runs along the front of the villa suitably furnished with comfortable sunbeds and other outdoor furniture. A central, pillared awning provides shade for those essential outdoor diner parties on long, balmy summer evenings. There's a barbecue alongside and also direct access to the kitchen.

Oh, what a pool !

A spectacular 20 metres long, it is heated to a perfect 26ºC throughout autumn and spring months.

Pretty gardens spill gently down the slope to the pool just below. And, oh what a pool it is! A spectacular 20 metres long, it is heated to a perfect 26ºC throughout the autumn and spring months when it is covered by a retractable greenhouse-style roof.

In July and August the pool is left completely uncovered and during mid-season it may be fully or partially covered (depending on the weather). Ideal for either a cool dip or a serious swim, it's completely irresistible!

Views are unsurpassed anywhere in Andalucía, encompassing the broad sweep of the valley of the Rio Guadiaro with the Ronda and Grazalema mountain ranges beyond. Delightfully rural and completely private, this is the perfect place for a truly relaxing holiday.

Perfect because, although it's beautifully secluded and joyously peaceful, it isn't remote: it has an all-weather access road and is little more than 15 minutes drive from the charming village of Gaucín, one of the prettiest in all Spain.

But please bear in mind that the track is quite a long one and requires very slow driving in a normal car, so it will take you close to 10 minutes to get to or from the tarmaced road).

Clients love it

"Absolutely beautiful here, it's hard to leave! Thank you for letting us enjoy an amazing get-away and for making our Spain escape a real treat"

Clients love it here. Here are a few of the things some have had to say:

"One of our best vacations ever. We enjoyed the beautiful home, its views, the pool, the town of Gaucin, Ronda and Gibraltar".

"All of us, from the grandparents to the youngest, have had a wonderful time. The mountains are breathtaking, the sunshine sublime and the villa beautiful and welcoming. Thank you for a special and memorable stay".

"We have a rule, we never come back to a villa, always looking to find a new one each year. This is the first time we are breaking that rule! Views to die for, the changing colours of the morning and evening light, a huge pool that tempts you to think you are as fit as you were 20 years ago, and lastly space, tranquillity, calm, and skies that light up with a myriad of stars".

A perfect holiday destination

One of the most relaxing properties in Spain, it's a year-round holiday destination with absolutely everything.

Although just a village, Gaucín nevertheless offers an excellent selection of restaurants, tapas bars, a tennis court and, of course, all the customary local traditions of an Andalusian pueblo in the form of many ‘ferias and fiestas'.

In the other direction the country road descends into a huge and very beautiful valley, the little road winding down and down to the village of Colmenar at its foot. This is another excellent destination for a tapa or two or a relaxing, lazy lunch. On the other side, immediately beyond the village, the hills rise up again, magnificently and richly forested by the huge cork oaks of the Alcornocales Natural Park. It's wonderful walking country.

There are several excellent day-trip destinations, none of which should be missed: to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz, each of them offering good shopping and fine restaurants as well as lots of history and architecture of great beauty. Each has its own unique atmosphere.

For those who want a day on the beach, Mediterranean resorts are just 30 minutes drive to the south while the white Atlantic beaches of the Costa del la Luz are ninety minutes away.

And there's always the option of a day trip to Morocco … ships leave regularly from both Algeciras and Tarifa. Just 35 minutes to Tangiers on the fast ferry from Tarifa, the longer, 3 hour trip from Algeciras is also a wonderful trip, the ship often accompanied through the Straits by dolphins and whales.

When you step ashore, you will certainly know that you are in a different world!

Whichever direction you head off to, one thing is for sure: you will be returning to one of the most comfortable and relaxing properties in Spain. A perfect all-year-round holiday destination, one that has absolutely everything.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
  • The village has an excellent municipal swimming pool, a tennis court and gymnasium.
  • For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Finca Cortesin, Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 50 minutes drive.
  • On the coast (both the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz) there’s every beach pursuit imaginable, from sailing and windsurfing, diving and snorkelling to whale and dolphin watching.
