Villa Description

The outside world simply disappears!

Deep in sublime countryside, this magnificent estate is hidden in the hills, acre upon acre of mature cork oak forest, parkland and olive groves.

This magnificent estate is hidden In the hills, deep in sublime countryside, just twelve kilometres to the north of Ronda. It's truly wonderful here, acre upon acre of mature cork oak forest, parkland and olive groves. Turn through its gates and the outside world simply disappears!

Within its walled grounds, a wide driveway leads up through the trees to three independent houses, all a stone's throw away from each other.

The two larger ones, "Los Olivos" and "Las Encinas" have three bedrooms; the third is a little one bedroomed cottage.

In low and mid season, it is possible to rent just one of the larger villas, either "Los Olivos" which is featured on this page or "Las Encinas" (click here for details).

Exemplary good taste

Whether inside or out, it exudes quality and character, a really beautiful home which will delight and enchant you.

If you require four bedrooms, you can also rent the cottage too.

Whichever one you choose, the other one will be closed, guaranteeing you complete privacy and exclusive use of the pool, gardens and grounds.

Owned by one of London's finest interior designers, her unique creative talent and exemplary good taste are apparent everywhere.

She is continually enhancing and improving the property (a tennis court here, a stunning bathroom suite there … ) and it is now one of the most relaxing and enjoyable places to stay in all Spain.

Whether inside or out, it exudes quality and character, a really beautiful home which will delight and enchant you.

Exquisite

The huge living room is a splendid mélange of antiques, original paintings and plush, down-filled chairs and sofas.

All on one floor, "Los Olivos" is exquisite in every detail and comfort. The 90 m2 living / dining room is a mélange of antiques, original paintings and plush, down-filled chairs and sofas.

A dining area with table and chairs for six occupies one end of the room.

Soft light pours in from windows which run down both sides of the room, enhancing its bright, summery feel. It's gorgeous!

There is a quality music system (with iPod docking) but please note that there's no TV in this villa (if TV is important to you, then you should choose the other villa, "Las Encinas" which has satellite TV and DVD).

A wall of French windows leads to a colonnaded, covered terrace running the length of the room and beyond.

Azure-blue waters

Views extend across joyous countryside, birds sing happily in the branches of oak and olive trees; the wonderful 15 x 7 metre pool is completely irresistible.

The views from here extend over the fragrant, colourful gardens immediately in front of you, across the gently rolling hillsides of the estate's mature woodlands to the ancient Roman settlement of Ronda La Vieja in the far distance.

Indoor and outdoor living have been seamlessly and luxuriously blended. The terrace has furnished areas to suit your every mood and occasion.

There is cushioned bench and cane seating at one end; further along, wooden armchairs and a cane sofa are gathered around a Moroccan coffee table. At the other end, with direct access to the kitchen, the long, marble-topped dining table offers perfect al fresco entertaining.

A lovely place to be at any time, at night it really comes into its own when the tall, stand-mounted candles which line the terrace are lit. There is lighting in the gardens too.

A very special place

The other villa will simply be closed, guaranteeing you complete privacy and exclusive use of the pool, gardens and grounds.

The excellent standard of furnishing and decor continues throughout the rest of the house. A hallway from the living room leads first to the well equipped kitchen. Spacious and attractive, you will enjoy cooking in here. French doors open to the dining terrace outside.

Further down the hall are two bedrooms, one with a queen-size double bed (also opening to the terrace) and another with a double bed which can be unzipped as singles, if preferred.

These rooms share a bathroom between them (with walk-in shower, no bath tub) which is also accessed from the hallway.

At the end of the corridor, down three steps, is the very classy and beautifully furnished master bedroom suite with its own sitting area, a very stylish, queen-sized four-poster bed and full en-suite bathroom (with walk-in shower). It opens to a fabulous private terrace area immediately outside.

No expense spared

Owned by one of London's finest interior designers, she is continually enhancing and improving the property.

The formal gardens in front of "Los Olivos" are separated from the pool area by a high wall. Just wander around the lawned surrounds and suddenly you are in a completely different but equally delightful part of the grounds.

Here, the azure-blue waters of the huge 15 x 7 metre swimming pool are completely irresistible … It's a magnificent pool with a wide, surrounding sun terrace, furnished with lots of good quality loungers and side tables shaded by large parasols. There's all the sunshine you could ever want and plenty of leafy shade too, provided by the beautiful old oak and olive trees which surround it.

It's a lovely spot, views extending across joyous countryside in every direction, birds singing happily in the branches of magnificently shaped trees.

And, like everything else in the gardens and grounds here, it's all yours … Heaven!

Immaculate

The splendid all-weather tennis court is beautifully set in the trees, the distant peaks of the Ronda mountain range forming a spectacular backdrop.

La Casita (optional)

If you need a fourth bedroom, you can rent the cottage as well.

"La Casita" is a pretty little cottage, just a few metres away. It's ideal for a couple who cherish a little privacy, or for youngsters old enough to be left on their own.

A few steps from the two main houses, its a genuinely rustic cottage, cosy and comfortable. A small sitting room with a large fireplace offers warmth and intimacy.

The twin bedroom (the beds are pushed together) is to one side, a little kitchenette and the bathroom (with walk-in shower) at the end.

It has it's own private terrace at the front with attractive countryside views.

Joyous!

A gorgeous home which offers comfort, quality and very real style, perfectly complimented and enhanced by the beauty of its magnificent estate.

If you want to expend a little energy, there is a ping pong table on the pool terrace.

For more serious exercise, take a stroll across the grounds to the immaculate all-weather tennis court which is beautifully set in the trees, some 200 metres from the house. In the distance, the peaks of the Serranía de Ronda mountain range form a spectacular backdrop. There are racquets and balls available.

Another walk across the grounds will take you to the "evening tapas tent", a finely woven canvas tent which sits prettily in a clearing in the trees. The tent was imported specially for its pleasurable purpose from the Great Indian Desert area of Rajasthan.

And if you feel the need to lie down after your exertions there, you can move on to the giant hammock (it's big enough for two) slung between the trees. Here you will enjoy the view up to the ruins of the theatre of Acinipo (all that now remains of a Roman city created more than 2,000 years ago).

Easily accessed via a wide countryside track (in excellent condition) this is an ideal base for adventures beyond its boundaries as well as being a relaxing and joyous place just "to be".

A gorgeous home which offers comfort, quality and real style, perfectly complimented and enhanced by the beauty of its magnificent estate.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • For trips out, you are spoilt for choice. Hemingway's favourite town in all Spain, Ronda, with its extraordinary gorge dividing the old and new quarters, is just 15 minutes away. With its mansion houses, quaint narrow streets, museums and art galleries and Spain's oldest bullring, it is well worth visiting.
  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is an hour further south from Ronda. It's a very spectacular trip, too, crossing up and over the Sierra de las Nieves before descending to glitzy, glamorous Marbella and a very different world!
  • Here you are on the doorstep of the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain - Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • On the wide, blue waters of the Embalse de Zahara (it's a reservoir but you would never know), you can swim or just enjoy the beautiful views all around from one of the little bars which open up in summer on the lake shore.
  • Take the dramatic little mountain road from Zahara which climbs high into the mountains and on to Grazalema. From here you can head west, crossing right over the magnificent sierras, thickly forested with cork oak and Spanish fir, to Arcos de la Frontera on the other side.
  • For something completely different, Sevilla takes less than 2 hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 2½ hours drive from here.

Activities

  • There are few better places in Europe than the Sierra de Grazalema to enjoy walking and hiking. We recommend "Walking in Andalucía" by Guy Hunter-Watts which includes six fabulous walks in the nearby countryside. The wonderful mountain terrain is equally facinating for twitchers, especially for spotting the big raptors. There are various guide companies in Ronda offering everything from one day caving adventures to hiking and bicycling trips.
  • The adventurous may want to try their hand at hang gliding or paragliding from Sierra de Lijar, just up the road at Algodonales. The village recently staged the World Paragliding Championships and is home to a number of paragliding schools with courses for beginners as well as tandem flights.
  • Horse trekking can be arranged at local stables.
  • Bicycle hire is easily arranged in Ronda. There are excellent cycle ways in the area including the Via Verde which runs along an abandoned railway line as well as far more challenging tracks for mountain biking.
  • Different water sports are on offer on the Zahara lake. Swimming is also possible at a number of secluded coves along the lakeside.
  • There is no more thrilling way of viewing the Ronda mountains than from a balloon. End your once-in-a-lifetime flight with a champagne breakfast overlooking Ronda’s old town.
