Review Icon"We were looking for somewhere to spend some quality time with our 2 young boys away from the rat race and fingers crossed, in the sun. Despite the heavy rain and storm during the first two days (!) we have really enjoyed our stay here. The boys have been in and out the pool the entire week and have really enjoyed themselves. The house has been perfect, with everything we needed, the gardens are great and the surrounding area is great for some easy hiking. Would definitely recommend to friends and we are sad to leave. The house manager has been great and was quick to respond with the small issues we had after the storm."

Review Icon"I chose your house from a number that I researched online, seeking one that would provide a good base for some much needed "Me time". The peace and quiet, the privacy, the sense of history, the level of comfort and the oh so lovely gardens make it an excellent choice. The wide range of excellent local restaurants was a bonus and if I return, I will not plan to cook! Many thanks to your house manager for his friendly assistance."

Review Icon"Our stay here was a truly wonderful holiday and we are sad to be leaving. The villa is spacious and tastefully furnished and comfortable, my daughter wanted to take her bed home! We all enjoyed the swimming pool in its delightful setting, but the real jewel of this lovely place is its exquisite garden. Clearly a "plantsman" has been at work. We loved exploring the terraces and trying to identify the many trees and shrubs. We have also appreciated the courteous help of your house manager."

Review Icon"We have had a mos enjoyable week at your beautiful villa, so much so that we all hardly wanted to leave it at all to go sightseeing, let alone to go home! We could not fault it. The gardens, pool and, of course, the villa are all perfect. We came here, primarily, to attend a family wedding and our lovely home helped to make it a mos memorable week, which we will always remember. your representative was most courteous and very informative. We would most certainly like to return in the future and would not hesitate to recommend the villa to our friends and family."

Review Icon"We have truly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of ZC72. The gardens are beautiful and the pool is fabulous. The home in sensational and very comfortable. We cannot say enough about how fortunate you are to have this house manager. He is helpful and informative and always available if needed. Yet, he is never intrusive. We would not hesitate to mention and recommend the villa to our friends in Canada and would hope we could return again some day."

Review Icon"You have an exquisite villa in a beautiful part of Spain, that is to be treasured. Our family has found great calm and relaxation in the tranquillity of the hills for which we are appreciative and would very much like to return next year. The house manager has been courteous and charming, as well as being a great insight into all things local. Hoping to be here for two weeks with our family and friends next year! Thank you."

Villa Description

Beautifully renovated

The design tastefully combines old with new, Spanish with Moroccan - not to mention a few classic French touches here and there. The result is superb.

Originally an old school house, this absolutely delightful villa has been beautifully renovated to provide luxury accommodation with genuine class and style.

The conversion was done by a renowned and prize winning architect and he has carefully retained original features wherever possible, at the same time incorporating subtle Moorish and Mediterranean influences.

The result is superb, tastefully combining old with new, Spanish with Moroccan - not to mention a few classic French touches here and there.

Attention has been paid to every last detail, from its traditional, polished terracotta floor tiles right up to its immaculate, wooden beamed ceilings. There are classy touches everywhere, such as teak flooring reclaimed from an old ship and a truly inspirational bathroom, to mention just a couple.

So comfortable

The owners' residence for some of the year, it is a proper home beautifully equipped with antique furnishings, rugs, books and pictures.

It is the owners' residence for some of the year and is consequently extremely comfortable, a proper home beautifully equipped with antique furnishings, rugs, books and pictures. The thick, original walls keep everything delightfully cool in summer, warm and cosy in winter.

Deep in a picturesque sweep of the delightful countryside of the Acedia Valley, the location is wonderful too, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the lovely white village of Casares, both of them just ten minutes drive away.

The villa is completely secluded, shrouded in the trees of its gorgeous 2½ acres of mature gardens. These meander down the valley of La Acedia making the most of the joyous landscape all around and the beautiful views which extend to the surrounding bowl of mountains and down to the Mediterranean Coast.

Wonderful gardens

A myriad of little pathways weave their way through cork, orange and palm trees, passing by herbaceous borders, lavender, roses and lawned areas.

The owners are passionate about their wonderful grounds and gardens … and it shows. To walk along the myriad of little pathways which weave their way down the hillside, through the cork, orange and palm trees, passing by herbaceous borders, lavender, roses and lawned areas is a real pleasure. There's nothing else around, no near neighbours, just sublime nature and birdsong to enjoy.

The swimming pool is every bit as gorgeous as the gardens which surround it. Spectacular, beautifully designed and a huge 15 m x 6 m, it can be heated (for a supplement), ideal for increasing the water temperature in Spring and Autumn.

Steps lead in to the shallow end of the pool from the ample sunbathing terrace; at the far end it is a massive 3 meters deep which means you can dive in safely from the roof of the covered, Arabic-style dining pagoda. A ladder on the side of the pagoda was installed specifically with this in mind.

Alongside the pagoda (with its Moroccan water feature and dining area) is the built-in barbecue. As the owner remarked, it's a perfect arrangement because the kids can hang around the deep end and enjoy the facilities there, leaving the adults in peace, lounging on the sunbeds at the other end of the pool terrace!

Spectacular and gorgeous

The swimming pool is every bit as gorgeous as the gardens which surround it. You can dive in safely from the roof of the covered, Arabic-style dining pagoda.

The property comprises a main house (with two bedrooms) and a cottage (with three bedrooms) separated from each other by a flower-filled patio which is also home to a little fish pond and a wisteria-covered dining area.

Mostly on one floor, the main house looks out to the divine swimming pool. Along the front there's an extensive and very comfortable terrace, partly under shade, with al fresco dining furniture as well as more casual seating around a glass coffee table. The views, of course, are stunning.

Indoors, the entrance hallway leads through to a fully equipped, French country-style kitchen. Wood and pretty tiling predominate with splashes of colour provided by Moroccan rugs and a lovely internal plate glass window. The kitchen opens through to the dining area.

On the other side, the large living room is traditionally furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs gathered around the fireplace. Subtly coloured rugs compliment the beautiful, mahogany-brown terracotta floor tiles.

Class and style

Classical decor and immaculate furnishings combine with all mod-cons, including satellite TV with full Sky service.

All mod-cons are there too, including satellite TV with full Sky service. It's a classically decorated room with original paintings, books and quality furnishings.

Alongside the attractive master double bedroom, with its highly polished wood flooring and splendid views out to the gardens, is one of the most immaculate bathrooms imaginable! Decadent might almost be a better word; its huge and beautifully decorated with emerald green Moroccan tiling, there's a sunken bath and a superbly designed, luxury shower.

Steps lead up to the second, single bedroom / study room which is the only room on the first floor.

From this vantage point it has views on both sides, to the Azedia Valley and the mountains on one side, to the pool and gardens on the other. The same view can also be enjoyed from the bedroom's private terrace.

Picturesque beauty

Surrounded by the delightful countryside of the Acedia Valley, the location is wonderful too. The Mediterranean Sea is just ten minutes drive away.

On the other side of the patio, immediately behind the main house, the cottage provides more neat and very comfortable sleeping accommodation with three more bedrooms, one double bedded, one twin and one single.

The twin bedroom has an en-suite shower room whilst the other two bedrooms share a shower room between them. Behind the cottage is a fully equipped laundry room.

The villa's location offers a multitude of places to visit and things to do. Beautiful countryside surrounds you (there are lots of lovely walks in the area and horse riding can be arranged close by) yet it is just ten minutes drive from here to the beaches of the Costa del Sol.

Heading inland, the timeless beauty of some of Spain's most impressive Natural Parks awaits you, with lots of charming towns and villages to discover along the way. Nearby Casares, Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting.

Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than fifteen minutes away and by far the nicest of them all. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 30 minutes. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is "Finca Cortesin", host to the Volvo Masters Matchplay Championships, just eight minutes away from the villa.

Casares is five kilometres away, a spectacular hilltop village steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view across the sea to Africa.

The great historic cities of Andalucía - Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba - are between two and three hours drive.

A great location, and with class, character and comfort in abundance throughout the property and its beautiful gardens, this is a unique and very special holiday villa.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 10 / 15 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (25 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (40 minutes).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is also a 40 minute drive from here.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is less than an hour away. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 1¾ hours.
  • Cádiz (2 hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Gaucín and Genalguacil to name just a couple.
  • And, of course, Casares, just five kilometres away. Because of its stunning setting, perched precariously on the side of a precipitous sandstone buttress, it is known as the "hanging village", one of the most photographed villages in Spain.
  • It is steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view clear across the sea to Africa.
  • Talking of which, the fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers in Morocco takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • From Gaucín (25 minutes away) a beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes from Gaucín), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • All around Casares, the beautiful scenery of the rugged Sierra Bermeja mountains provide a wonderful backdrop. The crags around Casares are home to a colony of Griffon vultures. These majestic birds, with a wing span of two metres, glide on the thermals high above countryside of deep gorges and pine forested ridges. The Sierra Crestellina Nature Reserve which lies alongside the village is a popular destination for birdwatchers and walkers.
  • Other National Parks not so far away include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and, just to the north of Ronda, the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • Córdoba and Granada are both within 3 hours drive from here.

Activities

  • There are excellent riding stables ten minutes from here which cater for all - experienced riders and complete novices alike. They will match you up with a horse and a ride to suit your requirements. Reviews are highly complimentary.
  • There's great walking too, with several marked routes through the delightful countryside.
  • Here you are in the heart of the "Costa del Golf" with at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Finca Cortesin, Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) all within half an hour's drive.
  • On the coast (both the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz) there’s every beach pursuit imaginable, from sailing and windsurfing, diving and snorkelling to whale and dolphin watching.
