Review Icon"What a wonderful villa, you couldn't ask for a property with better facilities inside and out. Plenty of areas to sit and enjoy a nice cold drink, enjoy the sunset over the mountains and sun loungers you could spend all day on, well until you need a dip in the fantastic pool. Inside is sophisticated and has plenty of rustic charm paired with some modern touches, fantastic array of entertainment between the gym, pool table, books, games and media. We would return in an instant!"

Review Icon"We had a lovely stay at this villa where a lot of thought has gone into making your stay comfortable with touches such as books, games and coffee machines. The whole villa is tastefully and thoughtfully decorated throughout with plenty of space to host multiple families or a group of friends. The outside area is brilliant with plenty of space to keep all entertained and the outside bbq and dining areas are especially nice of an evening. The views from the villa are beautiful, looking out across the hills and the olive trees and you really feel you are away from it all. The pool is not heated so can take some getting used to (we went beginning of Oct) but is lovely all the same. You will need a car to reach the house and explore the surrounding area but its a pleasure getting around because of the views everywhere! There is the little village only 3/4 mins away (very authentic with small supermarket and a couple of bars restaurants) and then both Loja and Algarenejo 20 mins away which have all amenities and lots of bars/restaurants to choose from – some of them really, really good! Review Icon"Fantastic country villa with amazing views. We felt like we totally got away from it all for our days away with the girls. It’s a great house for groups with lots of space and privacy. There were 4 separate large seating areas outside and the bedrooms were all really well sized. Beautifully decorated and really well appointed for a self-catering property. I particularly loved the second kitchen and dining areas outside. I could spend many an enjoyable evening sipping rosé on the terrace! Would highly recommend for families and groups. "

Review Icon"We had a wonderful stay at this villa. It Is extremely spacious, beautifully decorated and the owners have thought of everything you need for a comfortable holiday. The views are incredible and you really feel like you have the whole area to yourself. One warning; it is absolutely essential that you have a car as it is the only way to get to the property. However, once you arrive, you won’t need to leave! I would highly recommend this property. "

Review Icon"This accommodation exceeded all our expectations - from the moment you walk you are put into vacation mode with the amazing décor and attention to detail! The open plan living space is huge and ideal for families and groups travelling together; but not to worry there are nice out coves throughout the house if you need a little time away or to take a personal/work call. The kitchen is great with all the amenities you could ever need and its great to have the big walk in pantry. The pool and surrounding bar/grill areas as well as the dining area and pool (which is larger than expected) provide a perfect weeks entertainment and relaxation and we especially loved that the sunbeds were super comfy. Special mention goes to those incredible views from everywhere in the house; having sunset cocktails on the rooftop, overlooking the mountain tops while enjoying some R&R poolside, or even while in the shower!….and when you go for a walk around the views change around every corner. We definitely cannot wait to go back – it’s an experience that no one should miss."

Villa Description

A beautiful rural retreat

You will never want to leave.

If you are looking for a beautiful rural retreat, you won't find a better, or more authentic setting than this. The location is magnificent with rolling hills of olives, almonds, oak and pine all around, and views in every direction as far as you can see. It's classic Andalusian countryside at its very best.

This attractively restored farmhouse has a fabulous setting in a fabulous location. In the midst of some of Andalucía's most genuine countryside. Once upon a time this was just a humble, crumbling rural ruin. No longer! It has been completely rebuilt, renovated and extended by its English owners into a beautiful, spacious five bedroom holiday home.

One enters into an external courtyard with a giant oak tree welcoming your arrival, through traditional double wooden doors and into a central internal courtyard, complete with an Andalucian tiled fountain - – a perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee or breakfast.

A lovely sense of countryside calm and peacefulness

Perfect for lazy days by the pool, walking, bird watching and star gazing.

The internal courtyard is at the centre of the house, from here doors and stairs lead to its various “wings”. One door leads directly into the hub of the house, the main living area, divided into varying environments for reading, TV, games , dining and cooking.

First, the games or reading area with a built in sofa and comfy 2 seater, low coffee table and a large screen for games and movies.

Through to the sitting, dining and kitchen areas - The kitchen is well equipped, thoroughly modern and efficient, light and bright, with all mod-cons: electric oven, 5 ring gas hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, it also has a walk in larder with a 2nd freezer to store the extra ice and ice-cream for those hot Andalucian days. A centre island unit with two stools adds work space and a place to drink your morning tea, or coffee made by the Nespresso machine available. A glass dining table seating 8/10 makes the inside dining area fully functional to fit all the villa residents in one sitting.

After a fun day out...

The large, welcoming swimming pool beckons you in for a refreshing dip.

At the other side of the room the living area with two large, comfy sofas, a glass fronted fire place for the cooler evenings and big French windows opening onto a terrace with the most wonderful views!!

The two downstairs bedrooms are accessed from this living room. First a twin with en suite shower room, then two steps down to a well appointed double bedroom with en suite bathroom and access to a lovely little private terrace for two, looking through pine trees to the same spectacular views – Or on the other side of the room a door leads back to the central patio. These two interconnecting rooms are ideal for a family with children – But also the door can be closed and they can both become totally private and independent.

On this ground level there is also a WC/laundry room that can be accessed from the dining area or from the pool area providing easy access for those lazy pool days.

From the living room, stairs lead up to the master bedroom. A large, light, bright room with high ceilings, whitewashed walls and terracotta floors and a super-king sized bed – A truly relaxing space. The en suite bathroom is in keeping with the bedroom: large, light and what views! It has a walk in shower and a freestanding claw-bath (with shower).

This is it!!

If you want tranquility and stunning views

From the master bedroom, there are doors on one side that open on to a small terrace looking on to the “era” (the old stone threshing circle) at the back of the house. On the other side, there are doors that open onto the most spectacular sun terrace, complete with sun loungers and views of the hills and mountains that roll and roll across the vast, undulating horizon which sweeps out in front of you. There can be no better place from where to enjoy the sunsets and the night skies - Truly spectacular. From this terrace a backstairs can take you down to the pool area.

Back at the central courtyard a metal stair and walkway leads up to what remains of the original old farm house, now converted into two lovely bedrooms. One double, with access onto the large “era” at the back of the house. The other room in this part of the house is a long room with vaulted ceiling, Kingsize bed and fabulous Juliet balcony double doors. It enjoys plenty of natural light, excellent views and the charm of the old, rustic country cortijo. These rooms share a large shower room - which also has incredible views!

Time for a spot of lunch

Sun or shade... decisions, decisions!

The inside of the house is comfortable and pleasing but, for sure, you will be spending most of your time outside.  There is so much outdoor space.... and what lovely space.

From the kitchen, large glass doors open onto the pool area, and oh what a pool! If in the mood to relax in the sun, you will no doubt simply while away happy hour after happy hour enjoying the sun, or under a parasol, on one of the many sun beds, daydreaming the day away – Or, if in the mood for relaxing in the shade, you can levitate towards the well placed outdoor Moroccan relaxation area  under the shade of a majestic alcarrobo tree - the built-in benches, topped with plush cushions, are an ideal place for an afternoon siesta or just chilling - A real oasis of calm.

Directly  outside the kitchen a wide porch runs along the length of the house. To the right of the doors a long tiled dining table and chairs, to the left yet another sitting area with sofas which is a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine or to eat outside in the fresh air.

On the far side of the pool is, yet another, covered dining area and a large outdoor kitchen with a built in BBQ .

In all, a perfect place to lounge next to the pool, dine alfresco, or take in the surrounding landscape.

In addition to all of the space both inside and outside the house, for those that like to work out or socialize in a smaller group there is a large external games room next to the era and terraced gardens with a pool table, small bar area and gym equipment – perfect for any teenagers in the group or just those young at heart!

All in all a beautiful property which you will never want to leave!

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • Ventorros de San José (population 2,000) is a little rural pueblo. It has three bar/ restaurants serving authentic local fare at very reasonable prices, two banks, a petrol station, a chemist and a medical centre; internet connection is available in the Town Hall.
  • 30 minutes away, Loja (population 20,000) is the nearest place of any size, a little market town of genuine Andaluz character.
  • The picturesque white village of Iznájar is half an hour from here, the southern gateway to the beautiful rolling hills and olive groves of the Subbetica Natural Park. Sitting on top of a huge rocky outcrop which towers up from the breathtakingly blue waters of the Embalse de Iznájar, the largest lake in Andalucía, it's a magnificent setting.
  • Views from the top of the town are sensational, over the surrounding countryside - rolling hillsides clad with olive groves as far as the eye can see - and over the vast, beautiful lake (32 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide) which fills the wide valley floor of the Genil river on both sides of the village.
  • Also known as the Lake of Andalucía, it hosts water sports and fishing and has its own beach (in summer) at Valdearenas where you can swim, rent pedalos and canoes or learn to sail.
  • Its beautiful, clear blue waters are safe for children to swim or play in and there's sand to lie on. It tends to be busier on Sundays but is usually very quiet during the week, even in the height of the season.
  • Head north to Priego de Córdoba (45 minutes drive), a lovely town which is Andalucía at its most refined and authentic. A dignified, convivial provincial town with a beautiful historic centre and more than its fair share of marvellous baroque churches. All around, the spectacular countryside of the Subbética Natural Park.
  • To the east, the white village of Montefrio, with its high-towered church, suddenly appears through a gap in the mountains, resembling a ship sailing across rolling waves of hills. All around there is mile upon mile of wonderful, peaceful countryside. Time slows down here, for everybody.
  • An hour away, Granada is, of course, a must-see city. Soaring high above is the spectacular back drop of the snow-covered Sierra Nevada mountains. And what a city lies below, a city of classical beauty, the jewel in the Spanish Crown.
  • The mesmerising Alhambra Palace and its exquisite gardens, one of the world's greatest wonders; the narrow, cobbled streets and beautiful walled gardens of the ancient Arab quarter, El Albaicín; the magnificent Cathedral, just one of many superb examples of Renaissance architecture; the caves of Sacramonte, nostalgic legacy of the gypsies.
  • A city which inspired García Lorca, Andalucía's finest poet, it is, above all, a people's city, full of life and colour, energy and fun.
  • Córdoba too, is a must-see city, once the largest city in the world, the thriving capital of Al-Andalus, the name used to describe Moorish Spain which extended throughout almost all of the Iberian Peninsular.
  • In its heyday it was considered the Mecca of the west. The Mesquita of Córdoba is, along with Granada's Alhambra Palace, the finest example of Islamic Art in the western world, the grandest and most beautiful mosque constructed by the Moors in Spain. It's one of only a handful of man-made places in the world which literally takes your breath away.
  • Quite apart from the Mesquita, there's much more to discover in Córdoba. It's very picturesque, a town to stroll around. You will come across little squares, peaceful courtyards and balconies overflowing with bougainvilleas. The aroma of lemon blossom, the exuberant colours of the flowers, the cool trickle of a fountain. It's a beautiful town, Córdoba.
  • To the south west, Antequera is another very pretty town with an almost medieval air and a history to match. So much more than just another sleepy, sun-soaked 'pueblo' of Southern Spain.
  • Mediterranean beaches on the Costa del Sol are 90 minutes drive south.

Activities

  • Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the hillsides and little villages of El Poniente on foot, horseback, or bicycle.
  • The beautiful lake (32 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide) which fills the wide valley floor of the Genil river on both sides of the Iznajár hosts water sports and fishing and has its own beach at Valdearenas where you can swim, rent pedalos and canoes or learn to sail.
  • There is a chiringuito (summer bar) on the beach and a couple of bar / restaurants just above.
  • Caving is popular activity, along with hang-gliding, fishing, hiking and cycling around Loja.
  • On the northern slopes of Sierra Nevada, top class skiing is 1½ hours drive away.
