Set in the peace and tranquillity of the Andalusian countryside, surrounded by olive and almond groves, this neat and comfortable cottage enjoys stunning views across the valley below.
Located only a short drive from the village of Colmenar, the property is 200 metres down a private drive, in the grounds of an old Andalusian farmhouse, but quite separate with its own independent space.
The main farmhouse (also available for holiday rentals, click here for details) is 60 metres further down the lane but is barely visible from the cottage. A wicker fence around the cottage garden hides it from view.
Designed and built with holidays in mind, this is a simple but neat, clean and comfortable holiday cottage.
Best of all, perhaps, is its location. Situated among hillsides of olive and almond groves, overlooking a valley dotted with white villages, the views extend across to the Tejeda mountain range and to the Sierra Nevada beyond, as well as to the coast of the Mediterranean.
It is a spectacular scene, whatever the time of year.
Although there are two other holiday homes accessed from this track, the sense of privacy is still great. It is a delightful spot to sit and relax, contemplating the fantastic views which spread out all around.
A haven of peaceful countryside calm, it is an ideal place to rest and soak up the sun!
Parking is alongside the cottage. Inside, the open-plan living / dining / kitchen area is both functional and a pleasant and welcoming space.
A twin bedroom with big windows and a double with french doors leading out to the pool terrace at the rear, and a bathroom complete the distribution.
Outdoor facilities include sun loungers, a barbecue and a shaded seating area for dining "al-fresco", complimenting the pretty, egg-shaped little pool (approx. 7 m long x 3 or 4 m wide). With sublime nature all around, it is a very welcoming spot.
The local village of Colmenar is only 4 km from the farmhouse. With a population of just over 3,000 it is largely untouched by the commercial tourism of the coast and continues a traditional rural way of life where the olive, almond and grape harvests are an important part of the social calendar.
That said, Colmenar can be a lively place at times and there is a good range of bars, shops and restaurants all of which are very welcoming.
The nearby villages and towns of Riogordo, Comares, Casabermeja and Alfarnate all have their own fiestas making this an ideal base from which to enjoy typical rural Andalusian life.
The Alhambra with its moorish palace dominating the magical city of Granada is a must-see for many while on holiday. Also worth visiting is the Albaicín, the old Moorish part of town with its lovely flower-filled alleyways and squares.
Málaga (and its airport) is just three quarters of an hour away and many other coastal resorts with their marinas, restaurants and exclusive golf clubs are within easy reach.
The nearest beaches are at Torre del Mar, about a 50 minute drive away, where traditional ‘chirringitos’ (beach bars) serve charcoal-grilled sardines and other great seafood.
Locally, outdoor activities include birdwatching (especially in spring), cycling, horseriding and walking in the beautiful Montes de Málaga pine forests and in the Torcal National Park.
Guest comments include, "beautiful place, amazing location. We have loved our time here. The bonus - nightingales singing at night (May), cuckoos by day, stunning display of stars, a moon you could read a newspaper by, and wonderful peace".
And "Just what we needed - a peaceful spot with lots of beautiful scenery, sun and open space; a fabulous place to relax".
