Property Description
Standing in more than four acres of delightful countryside, amongst lemon, mango and avocados, this carefully restored farmhouse has its own little valley almost all to itself (there is just one other farm building in the distance and no one lives there). With beautiful nature all around, it's a perfect adventure paradise for children and adults alike. A real hideaway home.
It's a good location, not just because it's very pretty, but also because the valley opens out not far from here to the Mediterranean Sea, just 17 kilometres away.
Gardens include shaded parts on various levels and a barbecue area. The naturally shaped little swimming pool (approx. 6 m x 3 m) has a low-chlorine filtration system and was designed to be in-keeping with the natural hue of the landscape. Children's safety has been properly considered: there is unobtrusive fencing around the swimming pool area.
A large tiled terrace furnished with a farmhouse table runs alongside the property covered with a pergola which incorporates retractable sun-blinds to give shade as and when required. Sliding glass doors open to this terrace from the living room.
Inside, the house is all on one-level and is therefore easy for all. It's light, bright, neat and attractively furnished. The spacious living / dining room has satellite TV (Free to view), DVD and a radio / CD player. Comfortably furnished under its wood beamed ceiling, one of the sofas converts into a double bed if required.
The compact, fitted oak kitchen has granite work tops and is fully equipped with an eye-level oven and microwave, electric hob, washing machine, huge larder fridge and a separate freezer. There are two bedrooms (one king-sized double and one twin) and two bathrooms. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms and in the living room for hot summer nights, and an additional powerful floor fan if required. The living room also has air conditioning. For cooler winter months under floor heating throughout will keep it warm and comfortable (there is an additional charge for this).
Please note that the villa is accessed by an unmade dirt track which runs through a dry riverbed. It is generally well maintained (it also serves as access to citric, avocado and mango plantations) but because there is always an outside chance of heavy or persistent rains during the winter, we prefer to offer the property for rental only between May and September each year when ordinary hire cars can reach it without undue difficulty.
The delightful hillsides all around remains virgin, with few fences, ideal for a country stroll or two, and why not venture down to Cútar for a beer and a tapa in one of the two traditional bars there? It's just ten minutes by car along the beautifully scenic route via Benamargosa.
Cútar is an authentic white Andalusian pueblo. There are about 500 people living there, almost all of them working the fertile lands which surround the village, growing muscatel grapes, mangoes, lemons and avocados. The rhythm of life is relaxed and tranquil, everything done in time honoured fashion. So near - and yet so far - from the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns.
Benamargosa (ten minutes by car) is a proper working town and has a decent selection of supermarkets, bars and restaurants. There are banks, a pharmacy and a 24 hour Medical Centre. Wednesday morning is market day. There is an attractive little garden park which leads through to the public swimming pool (open in the summer months).
If you fancy playing golf there is a very good public course 30 minutes away at Baviera. For serious shopping there is the El Ingenio shopping centre which is about 20 minutes away, just outside Velez Málaga, which is a town you may also wish to visit. Torre del Mar is a very Spanish resort 30 minutes away and is your nearest sandy beach, with a long promenade and some good seafood restaurants. Nerja, with its beaches and famous caves, is 40 minutes away. Likewise, other attractions such as Lake Viñuela, Frigilliana and Alhama de Granada with its ravine and hot springs.
And don't forget Málaga itself with its Centro Historico, full of lovely old buildings, some excellent tapas bars and its fantastic Picasso Museum. Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada are all close enough for a day visit. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is two hours away.
So, there's plenty to do around and about but, judging from clients comments, many are perfectly happy to stay put right here, absorbing the countryside tranquility in and around the villa. Here are a couple of examples:
"What a wonderful place! We arrived at night and had no idea what we would wake up to … and were truly amazed when we looked out over the terrace in the morning at the lovely location, pure peace and relaxation, a real contrast to the crazyness of our life back in London, the kids enjoying the pool and being free to do what they liked without us worrying - will definitely be back!"
"We had an absolutely wonderful week! The tranquility and beautiful scenery were more than we could have hoped for and we spent most of our time sitting on the terrace soaking it all in. The villa itself was of a very high standard and a great place to stay. The quality of the building, furniture and equipment was superb. The pool was perfect and loved by all of us. Thank you again for such a memorable holiday, it will stay in our memories for a long time."
It's a happy home, perfect for a family holiday.
