Situated close to the tiny hamlet of Tijola, approximately 3 kilometres from Órgiva, the "capital" of the Western Alpujarras, this property nestles in delightful countryside and enjoys panoramic views, including those to the stunning, snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range.
It's an excellent base from which to explore and discover the surrounding flora, fauna and dramatic landscapes of La Alpujarra, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. Visit ancient Moorish white villages, with their handwoven rugs, pottery and locally cured hams; the bustling, beautiful city of Granada or the sun soaked beaches of the Mediterranean. Maybe you prefer just to enjoy the ever peaceful rural lifestyle all around you, and perhaps an excursion or two to the local tapas bars and restaurants in the evenings.
Parts of the property are more than 200 years old. It has recently been fully restored and extended, offering accommodation of a good standard. Very private (the English owners live in the adjoining property but with their own separate access), this is a place to relax by the pool, enjoy the perfumed blossom or simply take in the views. There is always manana!
The comfortable living room has wicker chairs, a sofabed settee and a woodburner for the chillier winter evenings. There is a multi-system hi-fi (CD, MP3, radio, tape), satellite TV and DVD, a selection of books, games and DVDs.
The adjoining open-plan Alpujarran style kitchen / dining area is well equipped with ample granite work surfaces, a gas cooker, fridge (with freezer compartment), washing machine, microwave, toaster, electric juicer and an iron and board. The extending oval dining table can seat up to eight.
There are three bedrooms: one double (which has access to its own small private patio) and two single bedrooms. The bedrooms are all fitted with mosquito nets and electric fans. A travel cot can be provided.
There is a good sized (10 m x 5 m) filtered pool for the sole use of guests which can be enjoyed by swimmers and non-swimmers alike as steps lead down to a gentle incline in depth. Now fenced and gated, it is completely child safe. It is enclosed by a large paved area, with sunloungers, table, chairs and parasol. Two gnarled old olive trees, a date palm and bamboo provide those all important shady areas.
Private gardens lay to the front and the side of the house, with further seating. There is a shaded terrace overlooking the gardens, perfect for outdoor living with seating, table and a gas barbecue. To the rear of the property is a patio with table and chairs, accessed from the double bedroom, an intimate, peaceful hideaway from others!
