Set in a lush garden bursting with colour and the heavy scent of orange trees, this newly renovated ground floor apartment is a perfect holiday hideaway for two people, offering light and spacious accommodation with the emphasis very much on on comfort.

Situated just outside the little market town of Órgiva, this is an oasis of tranquility and seclusion. Set in half an acre of gardens and orchards in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains with wonderful views of the Sierra Lujar, this is a lovely place to be. Surrounded by glorious nature it's a haven for those wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The splendidly colourful gardens are a special delight here, carefully nutured and kept in pristine condition by the English couple who own the property. They live discretely on the floor above. They do not use their terrace when guests are staying below and they have their own independent access. You will be hard pushed to even know there's anyone there!

Practically designed and cheerfully furnished, it has everything you will need for your holiday, including your own private pool (exclusively for guests' use). The open plan kitchen/sitting room is light and airy with french doors which lead on to the large shady terrace. Comfortably furnished with two sofas and rustic wood furniture, a TV and DVD, it opens through to an American style kitchen area (fully equipped with electric oven, gas hob, fridge, kettle, juicer, toaster and microwave). The stylishly tiled en-suite shower room leads off from the twin bedroom.

The spacious sun terrace, the swimming pool (7m x 4m)and the landscaped gardens are accessed via a cool, covered terrace (perfect for eating al fresco whilst escaping the strong Spanish sun). The bedroom also has access straight onto the terrace so, if you wish, you can just roll out of your bed and head straight for the pool! There is also an extensive BBQ area with wooden dining tables and chairs.

If you get tired of simply relaxing there is so much to enjoy in the surrounding area that you certainly won't have time to see it all. Órgiva is set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and a day trip up the mountains to the high Alpujarran white villages is a must. Just 25 minutes away by car it feels like you have stepped back in time.

The Moorish architecture with its flat roofs and charming protruding chimney pots (which look like old men wearing jaunty hats) characterise the buildings in this area. Whether your passion is walking, climbing, horse riding, bird watching or just simply enjoying the fabulous views which stretch all the way to the sea, here you can do them all.

Closer to home the weekly market in Órgiva is not to be missed, either. This eclectic and cosmopolitan little town comes alive every Thursday morning as the streets become lined with stalls selling fruits and vegetables, hand made crafts and clothes. For those who have joined the ecological revolution there is an organic stall selling everything from eggs, fresh herbs and nuts to sun ripened fruits and vegetables.

If home cooking is not for you there are several restaurants in and around Órgiva and a plethora of authentic ventas and bars serving local fare within five minutes drive of the holiday apartment.

A little further afield, the lovely beach resorts of Salobrena and Almunecar on the Costa Tropical are no more than half an hour's drive away and, in the other direction, passing through the spa resort village of Lanjarón, the country road will quickly take you on to the motorway which will speed you on to majestic Granada, just 40 minutes away by car.

You can ski in the Sierra Nevada (90 minutes away) under the bluest of skys you will ever see. Horse riding, golf and para-gliding are all nearby as is the GR7 and a thousand other wonderful walking trails. Or, if you prefer, just relax under your favourite olive tree, read a book or take a long snooze. Pick a lemon from a tree for your gin and tonic, an essential accompaniment for later as you watch the sun go down over the mountains.
