Deep in the middle of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, at an altitude of 900 metres, this traditional, stone-built farm cottage enjoys marvellous panoramic views, which encompass the wonderful bowl of mountains all around, known as Padre Eterno, as well as the highest peaks in Spain which rise up to the north.
Both the cottage itself and its location have a lot to offer, to families, to those seeking rest and relaxation and those with a spirit for adventure.
Here you can enjoy some of Europe's most varied and delightful mountain walking, centuries old Moorish villages where you can treat yourself to good food and wine, glorious mountain scenery in every direction, bathed in the unrivalled light of Andalucía. Easy day trips will take you to Mediterranean beaches (just 45 minutes away) or to the cultural wonderland of Granada, one of the great cities of Spain.
Parking is by the side of the little country road which winds up the mountain from Órgiva to the higher villages of La Alpujarra. From here there is a short, 60 metre walk down to the property (but don't be concerned about your luggage, the owners will arrange its delivery for you). Beautiful countryside all around, there's neither a vehicle in sight nor earshot. There is, however, a traditional working farm next door, not a noisy affair either but there are plenty of goats!
There's a small garden area, brimful with flowering shrubs and the little swimming pool with its terrace surround and furniture. There is also a second furnished terrace with a wooden floor, thoughtfully placed under the shade of a chestnut tree.
The charming owners live next door but their own house faces in a different direction so everything is as private as can be. Just occasionally, they will take a discrete dip in the pool. Guests have priority use of the swimming pool (the owners always
allow their guest's plenty of privacy).
The cottage itself has been refurbished throughout. The style is rustic, light and cheerful. All on one floor, one enters to the country-style kitchen / dining room. Big windows look down the stunning sweep of mountains; a second door leads out to the shaded terrace which enjoys the same wonderful vista.
As one client wrote, "A great opportunity to experience the simple pleasures of life in a 400 year old mountain dwelling, with what must surely be the most beautiful view in the whole of Spain!"
The kitchen also opens to the sitting room with its open fireplace, sofa and reading corner. From here there is a door through to the second (twin) bedroom which in turn leads through to the bathroom and to the main, double bedroom. So, it's all very cosy and intimate!
The closest village is Pampaneira, four kilometres away, a lovely little place with a charming central plaza with bars and restaurants spilling out around its perimeter. It also has an information and mountain guide centre as well as several shops selling local handicrafts and regional foods and wines, a grocery store, a chemists and a bank.
Apart from walking, there is horseriding, mountain biking, and, in winter, great skiing available in the area as well as flamenco dancing, pottery, photography and languages courses. Even closer to hand, next door in fact, the property owner is an internationally known professional guitarist, specialising in flamenco, jazz and classical styles. Lessons are available in his studio, at any level, either as a intensive course, or for groups or single students.
And, not to be outdone, his wife offers painting workshops which "aim to explore your personal approach to creative expression" using a range of materials and techniques to experience the rewards of painting for pleasure.
Or, just sit back and relax, and enjoy that view!
