The hacienda-style "Hotel Taray Botánico" lies in the heart of the Alpujarra, surrounded by mountains and greenery. The hotel is open all year round.
Just outside the market town of Órgiva, situated among orchards and olive groves beside the Guadalfeo river, it is a smart and well appointed three-star hotel. Opened several years ago, it offers modern facilities within whitewashed walls, tiled roofs and terracotta flooring typical of Andalucia. As well as Spanish, some English, French and German is spoken.
The vast windows of the plant-filled Reception afford views over the fertile river valley and the sierras beyond. This opens to a rooftop terrace with the same spectacular views. There is a TV / music room, a café-bar and two dining rooms.
Meals can also be eaten outside on the plant-filled terrace below. The hotel kitchen is supplied with local produce from its gardens, trout from its own trout pools, and meat from surrounding farms.
Fifteen rooms, some with sitting rooms and private terrace, are spread out along a common terrace which leads on to the lawned gardens. The rooms are rustic and simple, but come with all modern comforts, including air conditioning, TV, minibar and WiFi Internet. There are two communal terraces.
There are two swimming pools (there is a shallow end for children) in the hotel’s beautiful grounds, open from April to September, surrounded by palms and orange trees. Walks through the gardens take us past a turtle pond, a coppice of poplar trees and stables with donkeys and a horse.
Not only is it a beautiful situation, it's also very handy for getting around and about. Just a couple of kilometres from Órgiva, it's easy to nip into town or, a little further afield, travel to the bustling, beautiful city of Granada or to the sun soaked beaches of the Mediterranean.
It's also an excellent base from which to explore and discover the surrounding flora, fauna and dramatic landscapes of La Alpujarra, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and ancient Moorish white villages.
The "Taray Botánico" an ideal hotel for families with children, or for anyone who just wants to combine complete rural peace and quiet with visits to Granada, the high mountains and the Mediterranean coast.
