Just outside the market town of Órgiva, situated among orchards and olive groves
beside the Guadalfeo river, "Hotel Taray Botánico " is smart and well appointed.
Opened several years ago, it offers modern facilities within whitewashed walls,
tiled roofs and terracotta flooring typical of Andalucia. As well as Spanish, some English, French and German is spoken.
The
vast windows of the plant-filled Reception afford views over the fertile river
plain and the sierras beyond. There is a TV / music room, a café-bar and two dining
rooms. The hotel kitchen is supplied directly from its own farm and gardens which
form part of the hotel grounds.
Fifteen rooms, some with sitting rooms and private terrace, are spread out along
a common terrace which leads on to the lawned gardens. There are two communal
terraces.
Walks through the gardens take us past fruit trees to a pond with ducks, turtles
and other wildlife and to the magnificent swimming pool (which has a shallow area for
children).
Not only is it a beautiful situation, it's also very handy for getting around and about. Just a couple of kilometres from Órgiva, it's easy to nip into town or, a little further afield, travel to the bustling, beautiful city of Granada or to the sun soaked beaches of the Mediterranean.
It's also an excellent base from which to explore and discover the surrounding flora, fauna and dramatic landscapes of La Alpujarra, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and ancient Moorish white villages.
