In what was, not so very long ago, a remote, high mountain pueblo where the people had to struggle hard to make ends meet, "Casa La Sevillana" was the rather splendid residence
of the local manager of the national electricity supply company, "Sevillana". Hence its name.
Behind its grande facade, weekend guests included both
the King of Spain and his son, the Principe de Asturias.
When electricity supply was denationalised
in Spain, assets such as this were sold off, and the house was purchased by an
enterprising family from the village. They have renovated it throughout and converted
it into a very agreeable casa rural offering comfortable bed & breakfast
accommodation.
There are
seven bedrooms. Thankfully nothing has been "standardised" here
so each is a little different in size and layout. Light, bright and attractive,
splashes of colour contrast cleverly against predominantly white decor.
Five rooms are located on the first floor of the house, two on the ground floor.
Three have their own private terraces with lovely views down the valley; all have
en-suite bathrooms.
Downstairs, leading off from the reception / entrance
hall, there is a comfortable communal sitting / breakfast room with sofas gathered
around a big fireplace. This leads out to a spacious, walled patio / terrace,
also for guests use, where they can sit at original Moroccan tables and enjoy
the fresh air and country sounds of this little mountain paradise.
From the living room another
door will take you through to the kitchen anteroom where you can help yourself
to a buffet-style breakfast in the morning, and to coffee or a beer, perhaps,
at any time of day.
Everything at "Casa La Sevillana" is spick-and-span,
comfortable and pristine, looked after with loving care by the charming, and always
smiling, manageress, Maria.
Located on the country road which
winds up the Poqueira Valley on its way to Capileira, access and parking couldn't
be easier, and most of the village's selection of shops, bars and restaurants
are within a stone's throw of the front door. Whether you are in Bubión
to enjoy the incomparable walking and riding here, or just passing through, here you
will wake up rested and refreshed.
