Property Description
Set within its own beautiful gardens, with views across the verdant and fertile valley of La Acedia to distant hills beyond, this villa was designed by an award-winning architect who really understood what living in Spain is all about. It's a classic example of his unique, creative style.
Here you are in some of the loveliest countryside imaginable, beautifully quiet and serene. The views which open up in front of you are matched only by the immaculately maintained gardens which surround the property, a profusion of scented jasmine, beautiful flowering shrubs and mature trees. It's completely private, deliciously green and calming.
Pristine lawns, both at the front and the rear of the property, are a special feature here. And there's the gorgeous 12 metre diameter circular swimming pool to enjoy too! Surrounded by trees and the gently undulating lawns, it's irresistible, the icing on the cake in these lovely gardens.
It's a excellently designed house, one which uses all the architect's skills and intimate knowledge of the Mediterranean lifestyle. Lofty double-story ceiling heights and stepped floor levels give the interiors an open, spacious feeling and makes the best use of the wonderful Andalusian light. A variety of terraces and other outdoor living spaces offer a multitude of different ambiences to choose from, whatever your mood, whatever the time of day … or night.
Split-level rooms, clever use of light and space, planted areas inside and high, wooden beamed ceilings are just some of the features which make it such a distinctive and attractive property.
Built on two levels, the main living room, the dining area and kitchen are on the higher floor with the three principal bedrooms below.
The lounge, with its high, wooden beamed ceiling and huge terracotta floor tiles, is a cool and serene space. Sofas and armchairs are comfortably arranged around a wooden coffee table in front of a huge, stylish chimney. Sunshine filters in softly from the windows all around.
Doors open through to a shaded terrace at the back of the house as well as to the gardens at the front.
From the lounge a few steps take you up to the dining area which, in turn, is separated off from the kitchen by a breakfast bar. The kitchen has a character and style entirely in keeping with the rest of the house; it is spacious and decently equipped.
A seamless progression of interconnecting levels, both the kitchen and dining room have access to the breakfast terrace behind. From the other end of the living room a small study / TV room leads through to the barbecue terrace which overlooks the swimming pool beyond.
Downstairs, each of the three principal bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom with separate W.C. These are open plan so very much part of the bedroom itself. There is one double bedroom and two are twin bedded with the beds pushed together.
Spacious and also built on split levels, each has its own distinctive character and colour scheme. Fitted wardrobes, inventive bathroom spaces, internal planted areas, rough-hewn walls and beamed ceilings are common to all.
Doors open either to private terraces or to the pool and gardens just beyond.
As elsewhere throughout the villa, decoration and furnishings are good but not necessarily brand new. This house has been the country retreat of its Madrid owners for many years now and some of the furnishings and fittings are from an earlier vintage. It's a house with character, not for those whose idea of good style comes from the latest IKEA catalogue.
A fourth twin bedroom (with en-suite shower room) leads directly from the rear terrace with views to the garden.
Deep in the picturesque sweep of the Azedia Valley, the location is superb too, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the pretty white village of Casares, both of them just ten minutes drive away.
So you can choose between the beaches, fun and frolics of the Costa del Sol, or the timeless beauty of some of inland Andalucía's most beautiful countryside and charming towns and villages. Nearby Casares, Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further north, delightful old Ronda are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting. They are surrounded by beautiful sierras and some of Spain's best Natural Parks.
The beaches of the western reaches of the Costa del Sol, the nearest to the villa, are much less "touristy" and less congested than those further east. It is still possible to find swathes of empty golden sand here.
Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than fifteen minutes away. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 30 minutes.
There are lots of lovely walks in the area and horse riding stables are nearby, too. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. There are two marinas close by for anyone who wants to set sail into the sunset.
Locally, three roadside ventas are within five minutes drive from the villa, offering good simple home cooking. Pretty Casares is five kilometres away, a spectacular hilltop village steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view clear across the sea to Africa.
The great historic cities of Andalucía, Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba are between two and three hours drive.
In a great location, with lovely gardens and fabulous views, this property has genuine character. En-suite bathrooms incorporated into the design of the bedrooms don't suit everyone and some of the furnishings and fittings are quite a few years old now. But if you are looking for a villa which is truly out of the ordinary, this just might be the one.
As one of our clients said: "The house was particularly beautiful and in such a glorious setting. As keen gardeners ourselves we just loved every aspect of the garden. It was like having ones own Botanical Garden to walk around every day. Magical."
