Grazalema is a delightful and very pretty village in a sensational
setting, surrounded on three sides by the craggy limestone peaks of the Sierra de Grazalema.
A National Park, it's a part of Andalucia unlike any other and its rocky, rugged
terrain is both spectacular and beautiful.
This old farmhouse is a couple of minutes away from the village, set within it's own six hectares of olives,
almonds and fruit trees and surrounded by this exciting landscape. It's been restored without in any way disturbing its
ageless country charm. It is genuinely rustic, inside and out.
Decorated with old wooden furniture
and old farm implements, entirely in keeping with
the tiled floors and high, beamed ceilings, it's a big, spacious house, traditional
and homely.
Alongside the house is the appealing pool and terrace area. And just up the
little country road, one of the most interesting and friendly little towns in
Andalucía with it's bars and restaurants, market days and lovely old buildings.
Grazalema is at the heart of the Natural Park - of the same name - and is one of the most beautiful of all the white villages. It stands nearly 3,000 feet above sea level in the lee of the Sierra del Pinar. In common with the other pueblos blancos (white villages), Grazalema contains some of Spain's most distinctive traditional architecture. Narrow streets of whitewashed houses, most of them with wrought iron rejas drop steeply down the hillside. It's a very pretty and very relaxing village.
There's a multitude of things to do in the area, it's great walking and riding
country, lanes wind (sometimes spectacularly) through the pine covered mountains
to the other attractive pueblos blancos of Cádiz. Some of Andalucia's most attractive and interesting towns and cities,
including Ronda, Jerez and Cádiz, even Sevilla, are not so far away.
Mind
you, once you have discovered the timeless beauty of this lovely part of rural
Spain, it will take some persuading to get you back on the road!
