Property Description
One of the prime rural properties in Andalucía, this is a genuine Spanish hacienda set in the beautiful surroundings of its own one hundred and forty hectare country estate.
Situated within the National Park of Alcornocales, gently rolling hillsides of cork oak forest all around, the mountains of the Grazalema National Park rising up in the distance, this is about as magnificent as it gets.
Just driving up to the property from the Estate gates is impressive, the countryside all around is glorious, absolutely beautiful. And, suddenly, there it is: the Cortijo, splendidly quiet and quietly splendid, gleaming white in the Andalusian sunshine, its tower dominating the property.
The villa is furnished with appropriate style and elegance. The vast (160 square metre) living room has a separate dining area at its far end.
There are six bedrooms (every one with its own open fireplace), five bathrooms and a huge kitchen, not to mention more modern adornments like the irresistible swimming pool. The lawned gardens are set off by wonderful views over fields to the mountains of the Sierra de Grazalema which rise up spectacularly across the horizon.
It's all about good, old-fashioned Spanish grandeur. Secluded, civilised, rural living at its very best. The living areas are especially fine: choice furnishings, many of them antique, assure perfect comfort.
Books and original paintings adorn the walls, not to mention an extensive collection of wall-mounted deer antlers, something which seems to be a feature of the more opulent houses in this area …
Everything is attractive, spacious, comfortable and private. In short, it has just about everything one could want from a holiday home.
For those who require a hand with cooking, shopping or extra cleaning, the services of a maid with culinary expertise are available, if requested.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are all easily accessible as the property is all on the ground floor. The kitchen is enormous and well equipped, albeit that some of the gadgets are a little old fashioned. The pantry is the size of most people's living rooms!
The low, rolling hillsides of the National Park of Los Alcornocales, one of the world's largest forests of cork oak, forms a splendid backdrop with the magnificent mountains of the Sierra de Grazalema rising up behind.
Part of the estate is dedicated to conserving the natural wildlife of the area, where you will see pheasants, partridges and deer.
The nearest town is El Bosque, six kilometres away, an attractive little village nestling at the foot of the Grazalema National Park. From here a wonderful road climbs right up into the Sierra, winding its way through unimaginably beautiful scenery, taking you on to Grazalema, probably the most delightful, the most classic pueblo blanco of them all.
It's a journey - and a destination - that will gladen your heart. Beyond lies Ronda, entirely different, but equally magical. Hemingway's favourite town in all Spain, it is brimming with history and interest. A visit to its famous bridge and bullring, reputedly the oldest in the country, is a must.
in the opposite direction you will quickly find yourselves in Arcos de la Frontera, another of the really attractive, historic little towns which abound in this part of Andalucía.
Arcos de la Frontera is just 25 minutes away, spectacularly perched on top of its dramatic sandstone ridge, Peñña Nueva, and overlooking the meandering Rio Guadelete which flows around it on three sides. You can see it in the far distance in the photo below.
Historically an impregnable fortress town, its location is enhanced by its low white houses and fine sandstone churches, giving the town a similar feel and appearance to Ronda. The old town is fascinating, a labyrinth of narrow streets leading up to the Plaza Cabildo, overlooked by the Gothic Church of Santa María, the old castle (castillo) and by one of Spain's better Paradores on high.
And fabulous places as diverse as the golden beaches of the Costa de la Luz, enchanting, mysterious Cádiz and the glittering splendour of Sevilla are all well within striking distance, too.
This is a magnificent property. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.
