Property Description
Magnificent, sumptuous, stunning … a few of the adjectives which spring to mind when trying to describe this superb countryside villa and its surrounding estate.
It has everything … five-star facilities and comfort, huge rooms, exquisite furnishings, delightful gardens, a fabulous infinity swimming pool, its own tennis court, games room and a cinema. These are just some of the fantastic features to be enjoyed here.
Newly built on the site of a former olive mill, it retains its classic Andalusian style, designed around a huge inner courtyard (with a fountain and fruit trees). A wide, cloistered corridor wraps around this courtyard from which most of the rooms are accessed.
Its Moorish origin is very apparent in the architecture, with exceptionally large rooms, high vaulted, beamed ceilings and alcoves displaying beautiful lighting effects. It still features the ancient grinding stones of the mill.
Vibrantly coloured rugs and specially commissioned artwork add bright and vivid splashes of colour to an otherwise elegantly monochrome decor. The overall effect of one of stunning elegance.
And that's just inside! It's equally impressive outside with the absolutely irresistible salt-water filtered infinity pool, 12.5 m x 6.5 m, taking centre stage with gorgeous countryside views to match. It can be heated during winter months (for an extra charge).
The wide sun terrace and attractive gardens which surround it incorporate a covered dining terrace, poolside bar, American barbecue and very imaginative lighting. A second covered terrace area to the side has comfortable cane seating. Ample sun-loungers, quality patio furniture, four huge sun parasols and beautiful views give plenty of opportunities for relaxing. There is a pool shower and cloakroom.
Well maintained, colourful flower beds are set among palm and olive trees. These lead round to the other side of the house with its vast entrance courtyard - big enough to land a helicopter. A little pathway through the trees takes one to the immaculate all-weather, floodlit tennis court. There are rackets and plenty of balls available.
Totally private on three sides (from the entrance courtyard you can see a couple of other properties but they are a long way off), and set on its own 17 acres of woodland estate, views are spectacular, down to the River Genil which flows gently through the valley below, across forested hillsides and dramatic mountains and all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. It really is a very privileged place to be.
Several of the photos on this page were taken on a rather dull and uninspiring February day; we leave it to your imagination to realise how beautiful it is here on a sunny day!
Just across the gardens from the pool, there's a games room with table tennis, pool table and exercise bicycle. And around the corner, an independent, self-contained apartment is a very attractive space for staff, perhaps, or for two more guests.
The main living / dining room is, quite simply, enormous … in size, height and scale - under its almost cathedral-like, vaulted and beamed ceiling. Its three huge sofas and classic antiques and artifacts are almost lost in the scale of things!
Decorated in natural colours and with a very sophisticated lighting system, there is a large flat-screen satellite TV (with full Sky service), DVD and a music system.
One end of this vast room is taken up by a very impressive dining suite for 14; its cherry wood dining table would grace any board room. Above, a stunning Moorish lamp is suspended from the ceiling high above.
The handsome kitchen is very large and equipped with every conceivable appliance, including a Falcon Elan range cooker with double oven, grill and six-ring gas hob, two dishwashers, two American fridge freezers, a larder fridge and walk-in pantry.
For total relaxation, both a chef and waitress can be employed if and when required (payable locally). Maid service is included in the rental price (two maids for two hours each day, Monday to Friday).
There is access to the dining terrace from the kitchen.
At its other end, two steps down takes one down to a lovely breakfast room with bench seating either side of a big wooden table; from there one moves through either to the living / dining room or to the pool terrace and gardens outside.
Next to the living room is a splendid cinema room with projector and drop-down screen which can play both DVD's and local freeview TV (which has some international channels, but not Sky). Furnished with three plush red leather sofas, it is air-conditioned and has an electric piano too, as well as a large selection of DVD's to choose from.
Moving on around the inner courtyard, next come the five magnificent luxury bedroom suites.
There is central heating throughout the house (including underfloor heating in the kitchen breakfast room and in the living room, radiators in all bedrooms) and the bedrooms all have air-conditioning (as does the cinema room).
They have superbly comfortable, hand-made beds and the finest Egyptian linen, an en-suite bath, shower room, or both, as well as ample space for a sitting area under their high, vaulted ceilings. A hairdryer and complimentary Molton Brown toiletries are included. All bedrooms have individual broadband connections, ample built-in wardrobes and a personal security safe.
They all open through French windows to an attractive, flower-filled rear terrace :
(1) Camomilla Suite : this has an emperor sized double bed, sitting area and a generous en-suite bathroom with both a walk-in shower and sunken bath.
(2) Tomillo Suite : two enormous single beds, an en-suite walk-in shower room and a little office area.
(3) Pasiflora Suite : two enormous single beds, an en-suite with walk-in shower and a sitting area.
(4) Eucalipto Suite : two enormous single beds, an en-suite with walk-in shower and a sitting area.
(5) Oliva Master Bedroom Suite : this huge suite has an emperor sized double bed, a spacious double dressing room, sitting area and magnificent en-suite bathroom with circular walk-in shower, enclosed bath and double washbasin.
And, of course, there is bedroom Nº6 (if required, available for a supplement) in the cottage around the corner from the swimming pool.
It has an open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, a twin bedroom, bathroom with walk-in shower and a private terrace. It's very smart, entirely in keeping with standards throughout the rest of the villa.
The Entrance Hall, with its beautiful, antique wooden doors, still retains parts of the mill's origins, including the massive old grinding wheel for the olives; indentations created by the toil of the mule turning the wheel can still be seen on the adjacent wall.
Other rooms include an office with a computer and printer available for guests to use (there is also WiFi access in each of the bedroom for guests' personal computers), a well equipped laundry room with two washing machines and a tumble dryer, and a guest cloakroom.
Commanding some of the most peaceful views in Southern Spain, this stunning and very private luxury property has more than 1,000 m² of living space and 300 m² of terracing enclosed within its countryside estate of 17 acres.
It is accessed by a three kilometre track (always maintained in excellent condition) which winds down through the beautiful countryside below Gaucín village. The village is eight kilometres from the villa (10 minutes drive).
Views are spectacular, down to the Mediterranean Sea, the Rock of Gibraltar and across to the Rif Mountains of Morocco beyond. All around, the majestic scenery of the Serranía de Ronda provides brilliant brush strokes of colour and contrast. With Europe's cleanest river flowing gracefuly through the valley just below, it's a glorious pastoral scene, one which will be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Gaucín is one of the classic white villages of Andalucía, as pretty as a postcard. Its narrow winding streets, hidden alleyways and spectacular views have long been an inspiration for painters and photographers. For a village of its size it has an excellent selection of restaurants and tapas bars, both local and international.
There's plenty to do around and about. The mountain countryside of the Natural Parks which surround Gaucín is ideal for walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers; there are lots of fascinating little villages and hilltop towns to explore.
A drive north over the spectacular mountain road will quickly bring you to Ronda with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring. The Mediterranean's Costa del Sol is just 30 minutes away, the beautiful beaches of La Costa de la Luz a little further, a 90-minute drive from here.
And what better, at the end of a lovely day out, than to return to this luxurious mansion in its own private piece of Andalusian country paradise. A huge and very beautiful home which offers wonderful comfort, quality and very grand style.
