Charming, rustic and authentic, this cottage has one of the finest locations in all Andalucia. Hidden away amongst wonderfully lush woodland and surrounded by eucalyptus and olive trees you would never guess that this heavenly spot is just eight km from the Costa del Sol, and only half an hour from Marbella. In an area which is usually famous for its luxury villas, this traditional, one bedroomed cottage is an unusually rare find.
The friendly Irish owner lives in her own farmhouse, some 30 metres or so away (please note that on the way to the holiday cottage you will need to pass by her garden). She will always respect your privacy but will be happy to give advice on the area and to help ensure that you enjoy your holiday to the full.
And you will! Not least because you also have exclusive access to the fabulous pool situated at the bottom of the garden. With wonderful views that stretch down through the open valley, this large and well maintained pool has absolute privacy. The only thing likely to disturb the silence here is the relaxing sound of the cicadas (crickets) chirruping away in the jungly undergrowth.
Inside, the house has been simply and tastefully renovated. The main entrance is from the shaded little terrace, a lovely breakfast spot, through stable doors which lead directly into the kitchen / diner. Light and cheerful, its a decent size with good facilities including a dishwasher and washing machine.
The owners have taken care to ensure that this more recent part of the cottage keeps to the original rustic style. Its simple white interior is attractively decorated with gingham check curtains, marble work surfaces and tiled floors. Next door to the kitchen is the shower room / W.C.
From the kitchen / diner you pass through to the living room, in the original part of the cottage (once the stables for the farmhouse). With its traditional beamed ceilings, beautiful old stone floors and wood burning stove this sitting room has bags of character. Even the old stable doors are still in place giving you an alternative access to the terrace. The leather sofa at one end of the room can double up as a sofa bed for a child, if required.
The bedroom is upstairs, accessed by a very steep wooden staircase and then through a trap door! Obviously, the trap door can be left open, but this is not the ideal holiday home for anyone with wobbly legs, particularly as the bathroom is on the ground floor …
That said, once you’re up there, the bedroom is charming. With windows on three sides it is large and extremely light. Lovely old features include beamed ceilings, tiled floors and simple white-washed walls. These compliment the beautiful views down to the pool and the valley beyond.
Casares, the nearest village, is without doubt one of the prettiest of the classic white villages in southern Spain, its hilltop position dominating some of Andalucia's most seductive countryside. A minor road winds gently out of town, through the forested hills heading south towards the Mediterranean Sea and it is just off this road (access is easy, down a 50 metre track) that you will find this lovely country cottage.
All around there is glorious, peaceful countryside, making this is one of the most envious and beautiful settings in all Andalucía.
As one of our clients said, "I had a lovely relaxing holiday. The cottage is fantastic, the surrounding area beautiful and the hosts warm and wonderful. Just what I wanted".
