This is an cleverly converted little town house
in the heart of one of Andalucía's most delightful villages, Gaucín.
The location is perfect, opposite the church of San Sebastian in a
quiet, attractive street en route to the 9th Century Moorish castle, Castillo
de Aguila. The castle is floodlit at weekends.
Perhaps what strikes one first is the intelligent way it has been converted, restored and subsequently furnished to make
an attractive holiday home. With just one main room on each of its three floors,
the style is both modern and traditional at the same time. Its designer owners
have incorporated Moorish arches, Ronda floor tiles and colourful furnishings
and fabrics. It's a happy house!
At the rear it opens to an Andaluz
patio. The centre piece of this high walled courtyard (it is overlooked by the
owner's own house at the other end of the patio but is otherwise totally private
from the rest of the world) is a small but attractive plunge pool, just 3.5 metres
long by 2 metres wide, and a fountain. The wall of the fountain gives additional
privacy to the guests who have their own outdoor sitting area, a pleasant spot
(with a table and chairs) to enjoy the sunshine.
From the small entrance hall, there are a few steps leading down to the kitchen
/ day room. The kitchen is
well equipped with gas hob, electric oven, refrigerator, work tops and cupboards.
An arch separates this from the day room which has a dining table and a sofa to
relax on. Patio doors at the end lead out to the terrace and pool.
On the first floor, there is a landing with views out to Gaucín's pretty
streets and the church. An arch leads into the double bedroom with its en-suite
shower room. Over the double bed is a draped, blue and white stripped bed hanging.
It's a charming room.
On the floor above is the main living room, white,
light and attractive. A small balcony allows long views south to the Mediterranean,
Gibraltar and to the Rif mountains of Morocco.
Only minutes away from shops, tapas bars and Gaucin's excellent restaurants,
this is a great place to stay. It's intimate, attractive
and has all facilities. The owners do not use either the patio or the pool when
guests are in residence, so it's all yours! And for those who want a serious swim, the town has an immaculate 30 metre public
pool which is open in July and August.
