Located
in the very heart of Ronda's historical centre, "Hotel San Gabriel" is just a short stroll away from the town's world famous medieval bridge
across the dramatic gorge. Previously a fabulously beautiful home, it was opened
as a hotel in 1998, managed by the family.
Built in 1736, this ancient Andalusian house with its original Coat of Arms and
handsome stone facade offers sixteen carefully decorated rooms, each maintaining
the authentic old-style Spanish flavour and grandeur which is present throughout the hotel.
The traditional
charms have been complemented by modern comforts whilst every care has been taken
to preserve the original character of the building. Each room, individually decorated,
has a complete bathroom, central heating, air conditioning, television and minibar.
Besides a spacious and homely living room with a separate
billiards room, "San Gabriel" offers guests an intimate café bar for
breakfast and drinks with tapas in the evening. If you prefer, there is a cosy
wine cellar where you can enjoy a sherry before dinner and a peaceful patio with
plants and fountains, of which a client once wrote, "…here, you
can almost hear Spain's heartbeat … "
Last, but not least, you can enjoy classical films in
the Hotel's small cinema room with sumptuous red velvet seats taken from the grand
theatre which once adorned the centre of Ronda. All in all, it's a lovely place
to stay, attractive in every respect and well run by a charming family who really
care.
Ronda is one of Andalucía's loveliest towns, spectacularly situated,
steeped in history, reputedly Hemingway's favourite city in all Spain.
Standing on a towering
plateau in the mountains of Málaga Province, it is perhaps most famous for
the dramatic, plunging river gorge which divides the medieval (old)
part of town from the 18th Century (modern) part. Coming a close second
is its bullring, the oldest, largest and most beautiful in Spain. Everything about the town is a delight, one of the oldest cities in Spain with a heritage of magnificent buildings and a history which dates back to the mists of time. At "Hotel San Gabriel" you will be right in its midsts.
