Hotel Polo's classical
façade and 19th century architecture grace the centre of one of Spain's most stylish
small cities. It enjoys an excellent location in the very heart of Ronda, a
mere stroll from all the major sights.
Spaciousness and charm characterise the common spaces within the Hotel. The high-ceilinged,
black-and-white chequered lounge is tactfully divided up by pillars and comfortable
furnishings, some of them antique, to create a number of private spaces where
one may sit, talk, read and relax. One may take refreshments here or at the adjoining
bar area. On the same ground floor is the equally stylish, restaurant where all meals,
including a buffet breakfast, are served.
This is a family-run establishment and staff
are friendly and efficient. Local events, including music and theatre (there
is always something going on in Ronda) are posted up in Reception. Nearby are
the historic bullring with gardens to the rear, the spectacular gorge bridged
by the Puente Nuevo, the House of the Moorish King, museums and galleries, excellent
shopping facilities and a good range of bars and restaurants.
Ronda is well-known for its pottery, leatherwork
and wrought-ironwork and its well-preserved public buildings, convents, bridges
and arches. In the old part of town is the beautiful and shady Plaza Duquesa de
Parcent. This was the main square during the Arab domination, when it housed the
Mosque, market, jail and castle. "Hotel Polo" itself backs onto one
of the city's landmark historical buildings, "El Casino."
Rooms are furnished and fitted to all the standards
one expects of a three-star hotel. All are air-conditioned and centrally-heated,
have satellite TV, telephones and complete bathrooms. Parking is available close
by in a secure car park. "Hotel Polo" scores high marks, not only for efficency, functionality and convenience but also for its understated, unfussy service.
