Property Description
This two bedroomed country cottage (and its adjoining annexe with two more bedrooms) is set deep in some of the most glorious countryside to be found anywhere in Andalucía.
On a 70 acre private estate within the superb natural beauty of the Alcornocales National Park, all around are hillsides of wild flowers, oak and olive trees. There are a few other properties on this vast estate (the main farmhouse and a couple of other little cottages) but nothing disturbs the glorious seclusion of this one. There is plenty of countryside and acres of space for all.
Easily accessible, it is just four kilometres from pretty Gaucín village, less than an hour's drive from Gibraltar Airport and 75 minutes from Málaga Airport. A little country road winds gently down from the village to El Colmenar in the valley below and a short farm track (in excellent condition) leads off from this road and takes you directly to the cottage, which is hidden away amid verdant greenery on a lower terrace. There's private parking to the side.
Inside, it's both pretty and functional. At one end, the spacious living room is cosy and restful, with sofas and an armchair neatly gathered around the fireplace under its wood-beamed ceiling. It's tasteful and colourful with a genuine country cottage feel. There is central heating throughout.
The living room opens through to the dining the kitchen area. On one side the dining table comfortably seats twelve and is separated off from the kitchen by a bar top. It's well equipped with an electric oven, a four ring gas hob, dishwaher and a fridge. The freezer is just outside, on the terrace.
From here, a corridor leads through to a laundry / utilty room, a bathroom and, on the opposite side to the two spacious bedrooms. The master double bedroom (with en-suite bathroom) and a twin bedded room both have doors which open to the terrace outside. As elsewhere in the cottage, whitewashed walls and terracotta floor tiles keep everything cool and serene in summer.
Here you will wake up to a marvelous panoramic view which extends across afforested mountains and over rolling valleys, down to the Rock of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean beyond. Morocco is often clearly visible across the shimmering sea. A haven of peace and tranquility, it is a stunning setting, one of the very best in all Spain.
The other two (smaller) bedrooms are in the annexe just a few feet away from the cottage. They are both twin bedded and both have prettily tiled, en-suite shower rooms.
A terrace runs along the entire front of the cottage, part shaded and part open to the sun. Here you can relax in comfort and take in the magnificent south facing views. A great place at any time of day, it becomes completely perfect with a cold glass of something refreshing close to hand!
To the side of the terrace is the little pool, egg-shaped, approx. 4.0 m x 3 m, 1.5 m deep and its surrounding bathing terrace. The estate grounds beyond are filled with mature trees, marguerites, cape daisies, lavender and honeysuckle. With the Andalusian sun shining brightly overhead, this is as good as it gets!
Beyond, there are fields and orchards, olive and oak forests to explore. The estate grounds include an all weather tennis court which guests can use (it's shared with a couple of the other properties on the estate).
Gaucín is one of Spain's most beautiful pueblos blancos, spectacularly situated on a mountain ridge, 629 meters above sea level in the mountains behind the Costa del Sol. There are fabulous views at every turn. With a population of 2,000, its narrow streets house four supermarkets and a traditional butcher, an organic food shop, banks (cash points) and a pharmacy. There are a variety of small restaurants and tapas bars.
The mountain countryside of the Natural Parks which surround Gaucín is ideal for walkers, bird watchers and nature lovers and there are lots of fascinating little villages and hilltop towns to explore. A drive north over the spectacular mountain road will quickly bring you to Ronda with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring. The Mediterranean's Costa del Sol is just 30 minutes away, the beautiful beaches of La Costa de la Luz a little further, a 90-minute drive from here.
