When you arrange to meet someone in La Subbética de Córdoba, they invariably suggest a bar-restaurant! There's a very good one in picturesque Zagrilla where the owner will be waiting to show you to this imposing house on the outskirts of the village.

The property has automatic electronic gates and then it's a steepish private drive up to the house, which is set high up on its own in private grounds, surrounded by the ubiquitous olive groves! There is parking space outside and a large, cool garage, also: a real boon in the height of summer. A broad stone terrace with benches commands one of the best views in La Subbética. There's not a blot on the landscape.

New and large, neat and tidy, it's what one might call "Spanish modern-rustic" in style: polished tiled floors combined with pine furniture and a beamed ceiling in the sitting room. A reception area leads to the sitting room, a downstairs bedroom and shower room and to a well-equipped kitchen.

From here an arched window communicates with the dining area, so it's easy to pass dishes and drinks back and forth. The sitting room is comfortable, well-illuminated, softly painted.

Upstairs are four more bedrooms (one of which is en-suite), another complete bathroom and a door out to a furnished terrace with expansive views out to La Tiñosa mountain range. It also looks out over the lawned garden where the swimming pool is: and what a pool … at 14 by 7 metres it is twice the size of most and it has night lights for full illumination. There's plenty of outdoor space and a brick-built barbecue.

Smart, well-kept, with everything in its place, the property is available for winter lets also, when central heating and firewood are included in the rental price. Whatever the season, prices are dependent on the number of guests occupying the property. There are discounts for fortnight bookings, too.
