Perched high up on a hill the views from this newly built property are magnificent. Iznájar Lake, Andalucia’s largest reservoir, lies directly below with its strikingly iridescent blue water. Surrounding the lake are the rolling hills and mountains which the locals call Olive Country. These vast groves of olive trees lie like a patchwork quilt across the open countryside for as far as the eye can see.
Set in its own four and a half acres of olive groves, the property comprises the owners house (they are a friendly English couple) and this holiday apartment which sleeps four. Although quite close together, they are on different levels and the layout has been carefully thought out to give everyone their privacy. You will not be overlooked and you are guaranteed exclusive use of the fabulous pool (which is alongside the apartment) and surrounds.
Adjacent to the pool, this cottage apartment enjoys the wonderful views of the lake below and mountains beyond. Where there was once an old cortijo (farmhouse) this brand new building has all the advantages that come from designing your own property from scratch.
You enter into a light and spacious open-plan kitchen / dining / sitting room. The kitchen area is compact but has everything you would expect including a good solid dining table. The sitting area has a comfortable sofa and an armchair for those after lunch siestas! There is central heating as well as a wood-burning stove to keep the cold of winter at bay.
If you would rather eat al-fresco, enjoying the views and the peace and quiet of the Andalusian countryside, then there is a second dining table located on the private, shaded 40 m2 terrace which runs along one side of the apartment. The only sounds that may interrupt your rural tranquility will be from the local goats which come to graze amongst the olive trees from time to time. They are, of course, providers of good fresh milk which, if you give the owners enough warning, they can arrange for you to sample for your breakfast.
The bedrooms have been sensibly located at opposite ends of the living room for maximum privacy. One has a double bed and the other is twin bedded. They have identical layouts and both have en-suite bathrooms. They are equipped with good quality interior furnishings, including large built in wardrobes. Bedding is Egyptian cotton.
The really outstanding feature of this property is the gorgeous 10 m x 5 m swimming pool with its fabulous views over the lake. Guests are given complete exclusivity. It’s a beautiful spot to relax, have a drink and watch the sun go down behind the hills.
Perfect for escaping from the hustle and bustle of life to enjoy a little well earned relaxation, it is also an excellent location from which to explore the treasures of Andalucía, whether it be to visit to the Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Córdoba or the Giralda in Sevilla, all easily accessable by car. As are the beaches and golf courses along the Mediterranean coast.
Other places of interest and beauty well worth a visit include Ronda, The Sierra Nevada, El Torcal Natural Park (near Antequera), the Alpujarras and Gibraltar, as well as Priego de Córdoba and the other towns and villages of the Subbética Natural Park.
Just a few minutes away, the unspoilt and traditional village of Iznájar (with its castle dating from the 8th Century and church from the 16th Century), has spectacular views over the 32 kilometre-long lake, the Embalse de Iznájar (also known as The Lake of Andalucia). Safe bathing is enjoyed on its sandy Valdearenas Beach. And whilst in Iznájar, try walking from the bottom to the top: if you weren't in shape before, you will be when you get there …
