Property Description
Facing south and looking over glorious countryside, this villa has one of the most beautiful settings in Andalucía. It stands alone on a thickly wooded hillside, the mountain peaks of La Sierra Bermeja climbing up majestically behind.
Far from the madding crowd on the Costa del Sol it is, nevertheless, just twenty minutes from here to Mediterranean beaches.
Designed by an award-winning architect who really understood what living in Spain is all about, it's a classic example of his unique, creative style. The south facing views across the fertile valley of La Acedia are fabulous and the villa takes full advantage of them; wherever you are in the house, huge glass doors open to the beautiful scenery all around.
Its design makes full use of all the architect's skills and intimate knowledge of Mediterranean lifestyle. Lofty double-story ceiling heights, open archways and stepped floor levels give the interiors a really spacious feel. Split-level rooms, clever use of light and space, planted areas indoors and wood-beamed ceilings are just some of the features which make it such a distinctive and attractive property.
A very relaxing house, it offers flair and imagination yet is splendidly practical at the same time. It not only looks good, it feels good, too.
One enters the 10,000 m2 private hillside estate through electric gates and a short driveway takes you up to the house. Completely secluded, shrouded in mature oak trees, it gleams white, bright and welcoming in the wonderful Andalusian sunshine.
You can see other luxury villas dotted around and about in the Valley (this is one of the prime locations anywhere on the Costa del Sol) but there are no near neighbours, just sublime nature, picture-postcard views and birdsong to keep you company!
Built on two levels, the main living room, a second lounge/TV room, the kitchen/diner and the master bedroom suite are on the higher floor with the other bedrooms on the floor below. A proper home, it is equipped throughout with quality furnishings, rugs, books and pictures. There are air conditioning / warm air heating units throughout.
The main living room is at the heart of the house, a relaxing space with comfortable leather armchairs and sofas arranged around its huge and very stylish chimney, a satellite TV (free-to-view) alongside. With its high, wooden beamed ceiling and lovely Moroccan carpet, this is a relaxing and serene space. It opens at the front through full length, retractable glass doors to the terrace outside and the wonderful views.
A few steps will take you up to the wide gallery which runs along the length of the main living room behind the chimney and connects through to the other rooms on this floor.
To one side is the welcomingly rustic, homely, and very ample kitchen / dining room which is fully equipped with everything one could need: an eye-level oven, 5 ring hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave et al and plenty of work space too. The antique wooden dining table will comfortably seat eight. Needless to say, doors open through to a covered dining terrace outside (which also connects through to the main terrace area) and the beautiful nature and rolling hillside views beyond.
On the other side of the living room is a second, smaller sitting room / TV lounge. At a higher level it looks down through an open archway to the main living space below. Equally comfortable, with its black leather armchairs, open fireplace and a second TV, it's a light and airy room which looks out to the countryside through balcony windows.
A perfect place to escape, to read a book perhaps, it also features a splendid palm which spreads itself joyously over an entire wall.
Beyond, at the far end of the house, is the magnificent, huge and really beautiful master bedroom suite. Floors here are of highly polished wood. It's two bedrooms in one really, as there is a lovely bedroom suite down below as well as the double bedroom on the galley floor above (accessed by wooden steps).
If a little unusual (as it's half open-plan in design), its a distribution which will suit a couple who want their small children to be with them in the same room.
Both have private terraces and make the most of the splendid views. In the higher, galley bedroom, the double picture windows are a fabulous feature which guarantee that you will wake up one of the most fantastic vistas imaginable.
Both bedroom areas are also open-plan to the gorgeous bathroom / dressing room area with its splendid sunken jacuzzi bath, planted areas, windows, mirrors, wood and marble. It's big and it's beautiful!
Two of the downstairs bedrooms (one double, one twin with the beds pushed together) also have en-suite bathrooms.
Alongside is another huge room, once the children's playroom but which now provides an extra bedroom if required - or preferred - perhaps by children who want their own adventure playground to live in. There are books, a writing desk, a sofa and two single beds. Note that this bedroom doesn't have en-suite facilities yet.
All of the downstairs rooms have double doors which open to, and look out to the leafy greenery all around, meadows and rolling hillsides beyond. The lower floor also has its own independent access.
Just a few metres from the villa on a grassy bank with gorgeous views is the swimming pool (8 m x 4 m, 1.5 m deep). You will no doubt spend many a happy hour here enjoying the azure blue waters, splendid leafy greenery all around.
Deep in the picturesque sweep of the Azedia Valley, the location is superb too, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the pretty white village of Casares, both of them just ten minutes drive away.
So you can choose between the beaches, fun and frolics of the Costa del Sol, or the timeless beauty of some of inland Andalucía's most beautiful countryside and charming towns and villages. Nearby Casares, Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting.
The beaches of the western reaches of the Costa del Sol, the nearest to the villa, are much less "touristy" and less congested than those further east. It is still possible to find swathes of empty golden sand here. Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than fifteen minutes away. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 40 minutes.
There are lots of lovely walks in the area and horse riding stables are just down the lane, too. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is "Finca Cortesin", host to the Volvo Masters Matchplay Championships, less than ten minutes away from the villa.
Locally, three roadside ventas are within five minutes drive from the villa, offering good, simple home cooking. "Arroyo Hondo", on the way to Casares, is highly recommended. Owned by an English and Japanese couple, their food combines the best of both cultures and is delicious.
The great historic cities of Andalucía, Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba are between two and three hours drive.
Whatever your preference, here you are ideally situated between the sea and the sierras, the perfect place to enjoy the very best of Andalucía.
