These two pretty country cottages are a delight. Tucked away in the hills, they are intimate and cosy and have fabulous views, both towards the Mediterranean Sea to the south and to the mountain sierras in the west. It's just 20 minutes drive from here to the beaches of the Costa del Sol.
Featured in both the Sunday Times and Telegraph, these cottages are the perfect getaway for couples wanting an idyllic summer holiday, or to enjoy some warm winter sunshine and generally relax.
Within the same grounds, and sharing the swimming pool between them, the two cottages are located at a discrete distance from each other and have their own private terraces and gardens
Recently rebuilt, more or less from scratch, they still look like traditional, one-hundred year old Andalusian dwellings, with their decanted tiled roofs, rough white walls and wooden windows.
There are attractive tubs of flowers everywhere and these extend to the pool area. The pretty, wooden shuttered windows overflow with geranium filled window boxes. It all adds up to a very pleasant sight. The care and attention to detail of the English owners (who live a discrete distance away on the same grounds) is here for all to see.
Inside they are homely and cheerful. Ceilings are beamed and floors tiled with terracotta, the ambience is rustic. This is enhanced by tasteful furnishings and colourful touches set off against white walls.
"Casa Limones" is the closest to the pool and commands spectacular views to the south, over the Mediterranean, and to the west across the mountains.
"Casa Olivos" is set a little further back, some 25 metres from the pool in its own olive grove with tranquil, uninterrupted views across heavily wooded hills to the dramatic mountain range in the distance.
Both have a little living room with a small kitchenette, a double bedroom and a bathroom. Added elements of comfort include ceiling fans and air conditioning. Everything has been designed to make a couple feel relaxed. "Casa Limones" is decorated in sunny Mediterranean colours, "Los Olivos" features rustic pine furniture and relaxing, neutral toned soft furnishings.
Meals can be enjoyed on the covered front patio, contemplating the impressive landscape of hills dotted with olive trees, with the sea in view to the south. The pool is bordered by many varied plants and flowers such as hibiscus and jasmine, separated from the proprietors' garden by a wicker fence which creates privacy.
Situated on the migratory route between Europe and Africa, the surrounding countryside is excellent for bird watching and walking, photography and painting. Being close to the coast, there is usually a gentle but cooling breeze, more than welcome in the height of summer! There are excellent value tapas bars and fish restaurants in and around Alhaurín el Grande.
For a much larger selection of restaurants, shops and services, up-market, smart Marbella and Mijas are just 25 minutes away.
