Jimena de la Frontera, once a frontier village of the Moors, is set in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra de Ronda, built on a hill crowned by a Romano-Moorish castle. Situated just below the castle, this traditional village house has been restored and comfortably refurbished, retaining its original tiled floors and ornamental ironwork.
It's a terraced house located on one of Jimena's winding little hillside streets. Obviously there are neighbours around and about, including next door.
It did have its own small back garden but this is now home to an inviting little 6 m x 3 m swimming pool. This is as good a place as any to enjoy the beautiful views over the surrounding countryside although please note that the pool now occupies almost all of the garden, so there's now very little space around or in front of it for relaxing or dining.
The open-plan ground floor consists of a sitting room, dining room and kitchen which opens onto a breakfast room with splendid views.
Upstairs are two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one with a bath, the other with a shower). The double bedroom opens onto a terrace with views over the roof tops to the mountains of Ronda. The twin bedroom has a balcony which looks up to the castle and over the countryside to the Rock of Gibraltar.
The Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, which surrounds the hilltop village, is ideal for bird watching, walking, horse riding, painting and photography. There is excellent swimming in the pools of the Hozgarganta river, or in the attractive village pool, and the sea is less than 45 minutes away.
Many old Andalusian towns and sites of historical and archaeological interest may be visited within a day's driving distance. And Jimena itself is well worth exploring, it's a bustling, traditional and attractive Andalusian village with a good range of restaurants, bars and shops.
All in all, a sweet and unpretentious house in one of Andalucia's most fascinating little towns.
