Casares is without doubt one of the prettiest of the classic white villages in southern Spain, its hilltop position dominating some of Andalucia's most seductive countryside. A minor road winds gently out of town, through the forested hills heading south towards the Mediterranean Sea and it is just off this road that you will find this superb country villa.
Private and secluded, it is set in its own grounds of approximately one acre, surrounded by pine trees and mountains. The gardens and grounds are delightful, the views are wonderful and there's nothing to disturb your idle revelry. Just the tinkle of distant goat bells floating across a gentle breeze to keep you company.
The beautiful swimming pool (10 m x 5 m) and bathing terrace take centre stage in the garden, just below the house and there are a variety of different terrace spaces, some shaded, some in full sun, to choose from.
It is a modern house, very spacious, light and comfortable. The large living space with its comfortable leather sofas and ample sized dining table is bathed in light which floods in from the south facing terrace. A bar top opens through to a fully equipped kitchen. A bathroom and a small single bedroom (with its own en-suite shower room) make up the distribution on the ground floor.
Upstairs there are three more bedrooms, two double bedded with their own en-suite bathrooms, and a twin room. There is another bathroom (shower only) just outside the twin bedroom.
In the midst of glorious, peaceful countryside, this is one of the most envious and beautiful settings in all Andalucía. There's so much to do around and about.
The nearest village, Casares is a delight, still retaining its slow and uncomplicated ways of life, and there are several excellent out-of-town tavernas and restaurants around and about. We had a superb lunch in one, Arroyo Hondo, which is owned by an English and Japanese couple. Their food combines the best of both cultures and is delicious.
Another lovely village is Gaucín, a little further away, which has also earned plaudits for its charm and quality of life. And, of course, there's Ronda, Gibraltar, Jerez, Estepona, and Marbella … too.
The Mediterranean coast is just an easy twenty minutes drive from the villa. The beaches of the western reaches of the Costa del Sol, the nearest to the villa, are much less "touristy" and less congested than those further east. It is still possible to find swathes of empty golden sand here. Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than fifteen minutes away. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 40 minutes.
For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is "Finca Cortesin", host to the Volvo Masters Matchplay Championships, less than ten minutes away from the villa.
A quality home in beautiful surroundings, so many things to see and do … just the place for a perfect holiday!
