This creatively designed and luxuriously decorated modern villa has a superbly peaceful and very private location, accessed by a 2.6 km countryside track (it's a little rough in places, so we recommend a 4x4 vehicle) which winds up through olive and almond groves, more or less mid-way between the little spa town of Lanjarón and the market town of Órgiva.
Very secluded, it enjoys amazing views down the valley, over the blue waters of one of Spain's largest reservoirs to the coastline of the Costa Tropical. Views are panoramic, encompassing much of the vast bowl of mountain countryside which rises up spectacularly all around before falling steeply into the tropical coves and palm-fringed beaches of the Mediterranean.
The villa itself is really impressive, thoroughly modern and beautifully designed. It incorporates many stylish features and furnishings are of the highest quality. It is also designed to be eco-friendly with electricity generated by solar power, backed up by a wind turbine and by a gas-fired generator. The property has its own water deposit tanks.
All around the villa the gardens have been landscaped and extensively planted with cacti and lavender, flowering shrubs and plants. Almost a year on from when the photos for this page were taken, they have now matured into very attractive outdoor spaces.
From the gardens, a large entrance courtyard leads up to the ornately carved wooden double doors which opens to a beautifully tiled hallway. As elsewhere throughout the house, walls and ceilings are painted white, a perfect backdrop for quality woodwork, ceramics and discretely placed antiques and artifacts.
The main room on this ground floor is the huge living / dining room which leads seamlessly through to the open-plan kitchen beyond. A fabulous feature window at one end, high ceilings, huge windows and glass doors on both sides of the room give a tremendous feeling of light and space. It's very comfortable too, with soft, plump sofas and other casual chairs gathered neatly around the glass-fronted open fireplace. Moroccan rugs and coffee tables add colour as well as craftsmanship; a satellite TV, DVD and music system offer more conventional comforts.
This top quality, designer-style continues through the dining area (where the beautiful dining table comfortably accommodates eight) and into the spacious and fully equipped kitchen which has everything necessary to create the most lavish of dinner parties. A utility room (which houses the washing machine and tumble drier) leads off from the kitchen. A washroom/W.C. off the hallway completes the distribution on this floor.
From the hallway, wooden stairs lead up to the open-plan furnished wooden landing which, because of the split-level design of the house, looks down onto the living room. There are two spacious bedrooms on this floor, both double bedded, both with en-suite bathrooms. They also have broadband internet access. Each bedroom has its own terrace with direct access to the higher level gardens.
The other two bedrooms (one double, one twin bedded) are on the lower ground floor and share a bathroom between them. These, like the living room, have direct access to the south-facing sun terrace and to the gardens which surround the villa.
The kidney-shaped swimming pool (approx. 12 m x 3.5 m) is just below the house. Like the gardens and terraces just above, it enjoys the best of the fabulous views down the valley to the coast. The terrace surround is equipped with sunbeds, a pool shower and a small children's plunge pool.
The villages of Lanjarón and Órgiva are both a 15-minute drive from here with their shops, banks, restaurants and, in the latter case, a vibrant Thursday market.
This is an ideal property for anyone who wants to combine complete rural peace with visits to Granada, the high mountains or to the Mediterranean coast. In just 45 minutes you can be visiting the famous Alhambra Palace in Granada or just soaking up the city's wonderful culture. A further 20 minutes up the mountain road from Granada will take you to the Sierra Nevada ski resort.
Heading south, you can soon be enjoying a seafood lunch on the beaches of The Costa Tropical in one of the small resort towns, Salobreña, Almuñecar or La Herradura. If you are looking for a bit more exertion, the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada are waiting to challenge you!
For a peaceful holiday retreat, away from it all, this beautiful villa is as quiet and secluded as can be. A location which, because it is quite open, should benefit from a welcoming breeze which will make high summer here even more agreeable.
