Cleverly built and decorated with one eye firmly on the village's Moorish heritage, it combines the best of the old traditions with the comfort and amenities of the new.
The apartment is up a short flight of stairs, on the first floor of a small, stone-clad development at the top end of the village, alongside the country road which winds up to Capileira, the last village of the Poqueira Valley, and beyond towards Spain's highest mainland peak, Mulhacen. So, traffic will pass by from time to time and some of it can be a little noisy, but the location has its advantages too with shops, bars and restaurants all close to hand.
Inside, it's spacious, attractively decorated with lots of well crafted woodwork and good quality furnishings, comfortable, and well equipped.
One enters directly to the open plan living room / dining room / kitchen. The ceilings are beamed with chestnut, floors are tiled. There's a cosy corner around the open fireplace (there is electric heating throughout the apartment too), a sizeable kitchen area with the dining table and chairs alongside.
Doors open to a shaded terrace. The terrace is only small but, wow, what a view! Over the ancient roof tops of the village, across the splendid mountain scenery of the Poqueira Ravine, to the Mediterranean Sea in the far distance. Not a bad place to take your breakfast …
One step from the living room will take you through to a short corridor with the bathroom and two bedrooms leading off. The master bedroom is huge, very attractively appointed and furnished. It's not just a bedroom, there's plenty of room to take it easy. The light floods in through the double balcony doors and it enjoys, of course, that same magnificent view. The second, twin-bedroom is a little more compact but neat and perfectly homely nonetheless.
If you want to enjoy the best of authentic Andaluz country living and superb mountain terrain, Bubión (population approx. 300) is hard to beat. After a day exploring the hills and valleys, you should sleep comfortably here.
