Property Description
This thoroughly modern and inventively designed villa enjoys one of the most beautiful settings in all Andalucía. Its huge, picture-window glass doors look out across a vast sweep of rolling green hills, richly forested with cork, carob and wild olive. It's a joyous view which is as inspirational as it is relaxing.
Just a six kilometre gentle drive along country lanes from Gaucín - the classic pueblo blanco of Southern Spain - here on the 60 acre private estate of its architect and designer owners, there's nothing but glorious nature all around. It doesn't matter which direction you are facing, thickly wooded hillsides and dramatic mountain scenery beckons.
There are no fences which makes it fantastic walking country with superb vistas at every turn and, of course, total peace and pastoral tranquility.
Designed by the architect owner in his own unique and distinctive style, the villa makes the very best of its glorious location.
He doesn't like corridors and you won't find any here … the design features a huge central living space with living, dining and kitchen areas neatly divided off by semi-open plan dividing walls. It's marvelously creative. The four bedrooms lead off, two on each side of the central living area.
Quality materials and rigorous insulation (double the usual requirements) ensure it remains beautifully cool in summer, warm and cosy in winter. Double-glazed sliding glass doors all along one side of the living area open to the wide terrace which runs along the entire length of the property, overlooking the magnificent swimming pool just below.
All on one floor, it is a villa which features high-pitched ceilings, spacious rooms and top quality features and furnishings.
This living area is a delightful space; light pours in from the three huge glass doors, revealing sofas and easy chairs spaciously arranged among classic antique furnishings and original paintings. The floor tiles are lovely, giving the appearance of being made of slate, their grey / black sheen offering a serene contrast to the pristine white walls and colourful art works.
There are all mod-cons, too. A huge, 50" screen satellite TV (with free-to-view programmes such as BBC 1, ITV etc), DVD, a music system and a collection of books are housed on the "concept" wall which divides this area from the dining space immediately behind. This wall also incorporates a glass fronted fireplace.
On the other side of this creatively designed dividing wall (you can walk around it on either side) is the dining area, its two beautiful antique oak refectory tables matched only by the quality of the lovely Victorian wooden chairs. Again, colour and interest is offered by classy paintings, antique furnishings and shelves of books in what is otherwise a very modern, black and white theme.
Another partially open "concept" wall neatly divides this space from the kitchen area beyond. It's a kitchen of real quality, very well equipped with spacious working surfaces on either side of its galley design. Quality meals can be created here and easily passed through to the dining table.
The four bedrooms (two doubles and two twin bedded) lead off, two on each side of the main living space. They are all spacious and each has an en-suite walk-in shower room with intricate mosaic tiling. One of the bathrooms also features a splendid jaccuzi bath. There is plenty of space in each bedroom so, if required, additional beds can be added (one in each bedroom) to sleep a child.
The bedrooms at the terrace end of the house have, of course, double glass doors which open to the magnificent scene outside.
This is a real home. When it comes down to the little details of daily life, everything works splendidly.
Little details like a power pump which maintain perfect pressure no matter how many people are showering at the same time, a filtration system for the drinking water (so, there's no need to purchase bottled water).
A huge water deposit ensures that, no matter how little it rains in Spain, there will always be plenty on tap here. And there's central heating throughout.
A wide south-facing terrace, mostly shaded, runs right along the front of the villa with furniture which includes a round marble table and comfortable Moroccan chairs.
This is a lovely spot to wile away an hour or two, whatever the time of day. From here you look over wild gardens and a colourful rockery, down to the beautiful pool and beyond to the vast sweep of hills and mountains, forests of cork, carob and wild olive. It's about as good as it gets!
And what a splendid pool it is, 15 metres long by 5 metres wide, basking in full sun from dawn until dusk. Sunbeds beckon from its wide terraces, there's a sunny sitting area at one end, and a splendid pergola offers welcome shade.
Views are far, wide, encompassing the broad sweep of the valley of the Rio Guadiaro with the Ronda and Grazalema mountain ranges beyond. Delightfully rural and completely private, this is the perfect place for a truly relaxing holiday.
The all-weather access track is quite long but easily negotiable in an ordinary car, albeit at slow speed. It will take you close to 10 minutes to get to or from the tarmaced road.
The track meanders through the countryside and up to the wide gravel parking area just below the house. There is covered parking for two cars and plenty of space around for a few more.
To the side of the parking area, also just below the main house (it's no more than 25 metres away) is a small one bedroomed self-contained cottage which can be included in the rental for larger parties. It comprises a living / dining room with a small kitchenette area, an en-suite double bedroom and its own private terrace.
Ideal for a couple who cherish a little privacy, or for a youngster old enough to be comfortably left on their own. Note that in winter the cottage is not made available for rental. It is closed for these months.
Although just a village, pretty Gaucín nevertheless offers an excellent selection of restaurants, tapas bars, a couple of decent supermarkets, tennis courts and, of course, all the customary local traditions of an Andalusian pueblo in the form of many ‘ferias and fiestas'.
There are several excellent day-trip destinations: to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz, each of them offering good shopping and fine restaurants as well as lots of history and architecture of great beauty. Each has its own unique atmosphere.
For those who want a day on the beach, Mediterranean resorts are just 30 minutes drive to the south while the white Atlantic beaches of the Costa del la Luz are ninety minutes away.
Delightfully rural and completely private, this is the perfect place for a truly relaxing holiday.
