In the little winding street which runs through the centre of Gaucín you will find the delightful small hotel, "La Fructuosa" (click here for more information). Just across the way, this old village house was acquired not so long ago by the Fructuosa's owners and they have now restored and furnished it with their unfailing sense of good taste and style.
Perhaps its major attraction is the magnificent 90 square metre roof-top terrace. South facing, here you will enjoy full days of glorious sunshine, not to mention some of the best views in Gaucín.
It's an ideal spot to take your meals in the open air or simply to relax and soak up the sun. There is a set of swings to keep the little ones entertained and a small plunge pool is a welcome addition during the days of intense Andalusian mid-summer heat.
The views are wonderful; over the pretty tiled rooftops of the village, down to the coastal plains, the Rock of Gibraltar and the Med. Africa beckons, across the shimmering sea.
The interior of the house, divided into two spacious floors, has been decorated in the typical colours of the region and is furnished with a mixture of antique and modern.
On the ground floor, which opens onto the street, there is a charming living / dining room. The kitchen is completely equipped, and there is a small, shaded internal patio alongside, ideal for a late breakfast or mid-day luncheon in the open air.
On the first floor there is a large living room with an open wood-beamed ceiling that adds a special attraction. There are two bedrooms with balconies that open out to the street and a spacious, complete bathroom. Steps lead up to the roof terrace above.
Right in the centre of the village, everything you may need - shops, bars, restaurants et al - is close at hand. And no doubt you will be tempted away from your roof-top paradise at some point, to explore the wonderful nature throughout this glorious part of rural Spain, or for a day trip (or two) to one of Andalucía's great cities, Ronda or Sevilla, perhaps, or for a jaunt down to the coast.
