Property Description
Set in its own grounds in the picturesque hills of La Celima, between the pretty white village of Casares and the Mediterranean Sea, this charmingly rustic villa offers quality, comfort and a fabulous swimming pool; it's a perfect escape from the world.
The only sounds to break the silence are the songs of the birds, the tinkling of sheep and goat bells, the occasional bray of a distant donkey. Views of the bowl of stunning mountain beauty all around are wonderful and on clear days the Rock of Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains on the North African coastline are clearly visible.
A very relaxing place to be, the villa is also conveniently located for other nearby holiday attractions. It’s only a 20 minute drive to Mediterranean beaches and there are many excellent restaurants and ventas (roadside taverns) in the surrounding countryside. A dozen or so championship golf courses are also nearby - with the exclusive Finca Cortesin only 10 minutes away.
You can choose from the beaches of the Costa del Sol just down the road or, a little further away, the stunning white beaches and water sports on the Costa de la Luz which are just over an hours drive from here.
It is also a good base from which to discover the dramatic beauty and rich history of inland Andalucia. The lovely village of Casares is just a few kilometres away with Gaucín a little further on. From here a wonderfully scenic highway takes you through divine countryside and over the mountains to Ronda. Both Sevilla and Gibraltar are within easy striking distance, as are the bright lights of Mediterranean hotspots like Marbella, Puerto Banus and Estepona.
But we suspect you will spend a good part of your time right here at the villa. You will relax immeadiately and enjoy all that is good about a holiday in rural Andalucía.
A country road meanders down from Casares to the coast. Just a few kilomeres out of the village, a wide track (almost all of which will be concreted this Spring) leads off, gently winding up into the surrounding hills.
After a kilometre and a half you arrive at the entrance gates to the villa and its 10,000 m2 countryside estate. There's plenty of parking space on the forecourt (and there's garage parking too, if you prefer, at the rear). Flower beds and colourful plants welcome you as you climb the few steps to the villa, gleaming white and bright in the sunshine.
Built into the hillside, the living areas are at the higher, entry level with the bedrooms on the floor below. The style throughout is rustic and very charming with wood-beamed ceilings and traditionally tiled, terracotta floors. It looks and feels like it has been here for centuries.
Furnished with lovely Spanish antiques, finely crafted woodwork and lots of homely artifacts and decorative pieces, it's a very comfortable home.
At one end, the country-style kitchen looks out to the pool down below. It is both well equipped and pretty, a cheerful place to cook in.
This leads through to an L shaped dining room with a lovely old wooden table (for six), an antique wood burner in the corner and double doors to a balcony which makes the most of the stunning views across the valley. At the far end, more double doors open to an al-fresco dining terrace which looks out over the pool and beyond, across rolling hillsides to Gibraltar and Morocco.
Moving through to the living room you are immediately struck by the cosiness and charm of the room with its huge log fireplace, plump, comfy sofas, elegant and carefully chosen furnishings and, of course, wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Calm and comforting, the only concessions to modernity are the TV (which receives Freeview programmes, BBC, ITV etc. via satellite) and DVD player.
There is also a guest cloakroom on this floor. The three bedrooms are all downstairs. The large and very serene master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (walk-in shower, no bath tub); the second, equally spacious and attractively furnished double bedroom shares a bathroom (also with a walk-in shower) with the third, smaller bedroom which is furnished with twin beds.
All three bedrooms have ceiling fans and double doors which not only make the best of the beautiful views but also provide direct access to the pool area via a balcony which runs along the back of the house.
The stunning 10 m x 5 m pool is surrounded by a large sun terrace with comfy loungers. On one side, a rustic-style pergola provides plenty of room to eat or relax in the shade. This is a great spot to watch the sun setting over the mountains, the swallows joyfully playing in the skies above. There is a another shaded sitting and barbecue area by the house with a small summer kitchen alongside (which also doubles up as the laundry room).
Not only is it a gorgeous spot with views far, wide and handsome, but it's also as private and peaceful as can be. There are other villas dotted about on the hillsides (this is one of the prime locations anywhere on the Costa del Sol) but they are all a long way away. There are no near neighbours overlooking the property.
This villa has genuine Spanish charm as well as all modern comforts. Surrounded by hillsides of olive and chestnut trees, it is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the sunshine and the fabulous pool, admire the views and get away from it all!
