Property Description
Holiday villas don't come any more special than this, or any more secluded. Accessed through pine forests deep in the heart of the Tarifa Natural Park, one has to cross through a Spanish military zone before you reach it. Apart from a couple of neighbouring houses, absolutely nobody else is allowed through. And don't worry, there are no guns going off or anything like that, one just passes by a check-point where the guards know who you are and happily waive you on.
And what a location! Surrounded on three sides by dense pine forests, the property sits proudly on the rocks, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with the street lights and coastal mountains of Morocco clearly visible to the south. It's one of the most sensational and inspirational views imaginable.
There is no swimming pool but who needs one when, just 50 metres below the villa, is a fabulous and equally secluded beach. Its golden sands are effectively all yours as it's inaccessible to the general public.
Here you will enjoy complete privacy amid gorgeous, wild and wonderful nature, with views to the Atlantic Ocean and the African coastline beyond which are totally absorbing and completely irresistible. This is real and very rare beauty, making this one of the most unique of places to stay anywhere in Europe, never mind Andalucía.
The villa has been built with great creative style and flair, a sort of 21st Century super-deluxe seaside wooden cabin with all mod-cons. Just ten kilometres from Tarifa, the last couple of kilometres to the villa are along an unpaved track (easily passable in a normal car) through the pine forests. Suddenly, dramatically, the bay opens up before you and there is the villa, surrounded by wild and verdant, beautiful nature.
The hills which surround it, at the rear and on both sides, where once the Romans hued the rocks to build their settlement at Bolonia a little further along the coast, create a natural wind-break, making this one of the calmest and most sheltered situations anywhere on the (frequently windy) Costa de la Luz.
Now with a thatched roof, the villa itself is lovely. South facing, it enjoys full sunshine from dawn until dusk. Along the entire front, the covered terrace area provides a perfect spot to take in the incredible seascape which extends across the horizon in front of you. There's wooden dining furniture here for your al fresco meals, sunloungers and night lighting too.
The "walls" are mostly full-length double-glazed glass which not only create a wonderful sense of light and space inside but also, of course, allows one to enjoy the panorama before you, whether inside and out. Everything else is constructed out of wood. At one end is the lounge area with its comfortable white sofa and armchairs gathered around a coffee table and the flat-screen satellite TV and stereo system.
The well equipped kitchen / dining area extends through to the rear where the en-suite master double bedroom (with its four-poster bed) and a second bathroom are also located. All furnishings are of excellent quality.
The other two bedrooms (one double and one twin-bedded) are on a mezzanine platform below the roof timbers, one on each side, with access from the floor below by way of ladders. Perhaps that sounds rudimentary but it isn't, they are very attractive bedrooms. Obviously, they are not suitable for anyone with wobbly legs, and their triangular entrances are open to view, but there's something very charming about being up in the wooden rafters.
Should you wish to explore a little further afield, there's plenty more to enjoy around and about, here at the southern-most tip of Europe with mile upon mile of unspoilt beaches on the Costa de la Luz; duty free shopping, the caves and history of Gibraltar are 45 minutes away, as is Morocco! Fast ferries cross regularly from Tarifa, and a day trip to Tangiers will take you to a different world. Inland, there are wonderfully scenic drives to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez, Cádiz and Sevilla. Golf, riding, walking, good restaurants … et al.
And, of course, there's Tarifa, a fun little town, now Europe's mecca for wind and kite surfers but still retaining its small town character and history. It's position at the point which not only separates Europe from Africa but also the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean gives it a unique micro climate.
Along with windsurfing and diving, kite surfing is now extremely popular here and it isn't unusual to see 250 kites in the sea and on the beach in summer . . . an amazing sight. There are many nature related activities to enjoy too, such as horse riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, bird watching, trekking and whale watching. Always lively and entertaining, there's something special about Tarifa.
But you may not be tempted away from this wonderful villa at all. There is something almost magical about it, overlooking a secluded sandy beach and, one of the world's great oceans.
