Property Description

Anything but 'rustic', this is a very stylish restoration of a traditional house in the middle of Gaucín village. The result of a complete make-over is a very smart, spacious home which cleverly uses the wonderful Andalusian light to show off its excellent quality furnishings.

Design throughout is modern, elegant, cool but colourful. Fabrics, wall hangings and tile work offer imaginative detail against the white walls, white sofas and high white ceilings. It's a classy place, and no surprise that the owners of the charming village hotel, La Fructuosa, were involved in the restoration project. If anyone has good taste, they have.

bedroom

Located just around the corner from a small, pretty plaza (village square) in the heart of the village, the house has a fabulous view over the rooftops of the surrounding houses to the dramatic peak of El Hacho mountain. Huge windows make the best of this picture postcard vista, which is also enjoyed from the upper terrace at the back of the house.

It is perfectly located to make the best of the village amenities: shops, bars and restaurants are all just a short stroll away.

bedroom

Inside, it feels huge. The front door opens to a large reception area from which a couple of steps lead down to the living / dining room, a delightfully uncluttered and open space. There is ample room for the two sofas, armchairs and accompanying coffee table, all set around the open fireplace, as well as a large dining table which will comfortably sit eight. French doors open to the terrace areas. The modern, fully equipped kitchen is located at the rear, separated off by a bar top.

Also on this level is a twin bedroom (with the beds pushed together) and a very large bathroom, flamboyantly decorated with brightly coloured tiles.

Outside space is more restricted, and the pool is tiny, just a plunge pool, but nevertheless inviting on a hot summer's day. The main terrace is a neat, attractive space enclosed by a curvy, salmon pink garden wall, a good spot to take breakfast or a refreshing evening drink watching the sun setting behind the hills beyond the village. From here, stairs lead down to another small, lower terrace with barbecue.

Upstairs an attractive collection of framed art-deco posters on the landing leads through to a second, comfortably furnished living room with a huge balcony window. The master double bedroom (with its own partly shaded private terrace) is also on this floor, separated from the third (twin) bedroom by another large bathroom, this one having a hydro-massage tub as well as a shower.

Everything is good quality: walls are thick and well insulated, windows are double glazed, there's an excellent collection of LP's (yes, real ones!) to go with the music system, videos, books, even a boxer's punch bag, handy if you want to burn off a few calories.

living room

There is central heating throughout (as well as the large open fireplace) and portable fans are provided in summer. So, it's ideal for both winter breaks and for your holiday in the sun, a house which combines character, style and excellent taste.
