Property Description

Originally an old school house, this absolutely delightful villa has been beautifully renovated to provide luxury accommodation with genuine class and style. The conversion was done by a renown and prize winning architect and he has carefully retained original features wherever possible, at the same time incorporating subtle Moorish and Mediterranean influences.

the pool and surrounds

The result is superb, tastefully combining old with new, Spanish with Moroccan - not to mention a few classic French touches here and there.

Attention has been paid to every last detail, from its traditional, polished terracotta floor tiles right up to its immaculate, wooden beamed ceilings. There are classy touches everywhere, such as teak flooring reclaimed from an old ship and a truly inspirational bathroom, to mention just a couple.

living room

It is the owners' residence for some of the year and is consequently extremely comfortable, a proper home beautifully equipped with antique furnishings, rugs, books and pictures. The thick, original walls keep everything delightfully cool in summer, warm and cozy in winter.

Deep in a picturesque sweep of the delightful countryside of the Acedia Valley, the location is wonderful too, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the lovely white village of Casares, both of them just ten minutes drive away.

the pool and pergola

The villa is completely secluded, shrouded in the trees of its gorgeous 2½ acres of mature gardens. These meander down the valley of La Acedia making the most of the joyous landscape all around and the beautiful views which extend to the surrounding bowl of mountains and down to the Mediterranean Coast.

terrace

The owners are passionate about their wonderful grounds and gardens … and it shows. To walk along the myriad of little pathways which weave their way down the hillside, through the cork, orange and palm trees, passing by herbaceous borders, lavender, roses and lawned areas is a real pleasure. There's nothing else around, no near neighbours, just sublime nature and birdsong to enjoy.

gardens

The swimming pool is every bit as gorgeous as the gardens which surround it. Spectacular, beautifully designed and a huge 15 m x 6 m, it can be heated (for a supplement), ideal for increasing the water temperature in Spring and Autumn.

Steps lead in to the shallow end of the pool from the ample sunbathing terrace; at the far end it is a massive 3 meters deep which means you can dive in safely from the roof of the covered, Arabic-style dining pagoda. A ladder on the side of the pagoda was installed specifically with this in mind.

master bedroom

Alongside the pagoda (with its Moroccan water feature and dining area) is the built-in barbecue. As the owner remarked, it's a perfect arrangement because the kids can hang around the deep end and enjoy the facilities there, leaving the adults in peace, lounging on the sunbeds at the other end of the pool terrace!

The property comprises a main house (with two bedrooms) and a cottage (with three bedrooms) separated from each other by a flower-filled patio which is also home to a little fish pond and a wisteria-covered dining area.

pool and views

Mostly on one floor, the main house looks out to the divine swimming pool. Along the front there's an extensive and very comfortable terrace, partly under shade, with al fresco dining furniture as well as more casual seating around a glass coffee table. The views, of course, are stunning.

the patio between the house and cottage

Indoors, the entrance hallway leads through to a fully equipped, French country-style kitchen. Wood and pretty tiling predominate with splashes of colour provided by Moroccan rugs and a lovely internal plate glass window. The kitchen opens through to the dining area.

On the other side, the large living room is traditionally furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs gathered around the open fireplace. Subtly coloured rugs compliment the beautiful, mahogany-brown terracotta floor tiles. All mod-cons are there too, including satellite TV with full Sky service. It's a classically decorated room with original paintings, books and quality furnishings.

entrance detail

Alongside the attractive master double bedroom, with its highly polished wood flooring and splendid views out to the gardens, is one of the most immaculate bathrooms imaginable! Decadent might almost be a better word; its huge and beautifully decorated with emerald green Moroccan tiling, there's a sunken bath and a superbly designed, luxury shower.

Steps lead up to the second, single bedroom / study room which is the only room on the first floor. From this vantage point it has views on both sides, to the Azedia Valley and the mountains on one side, to the pool and gardens on the other. The same view can also be enjoyed from the bedroom's private terrace.

the pool and pergola (looking from the villa)

On the other side of the patio, immediately behind the main house, the cottage provides more neat and very comfortable sleeping accommodation with three more bedrooms, one double bedded, one twin and one single. The twin bedroom has an en-suite shower room whilst the other two bedrooms share a shower room between them. Behind the cottage is a fully equipped laundry room.

terrace

The villa's location offers a multitude of places to visit and things to do. Beautiful countryside surrounds you (there are lots of lovely walks in the area and horse riding can be arranged close by) yet it is just ten minutes drive from here to the beaches of the Costa del Sol.

Heading inland, the timeless beauty of some of Spain's most impressive Natural Parks awaits you, with lots of charming towns and villages to discover along the way. Nearby Casares, Gaucín, Jimena de la Frontera, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all attractive, lovely places, well worth visiting.

pergola and barbeque area

Estepona is the nearest of the resort towns on the coast, a little more than fifteen minutes away and by far the nicest of them all. Marbella, with all its glitz and glamour, and Gibraltar, take 30 minutes. For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 30 minutes drive. Highly recommended is "Finca Cortesin", host to the Volvo Masters Matchplay Championships, just eight minutes away from the villa.

bedroom

Casares is five kilometres away, a spectacular hilltop village steeped in history with its Roman baths and aqueduct still in place. Climb to the castle at its very top, where the Moors held out against the Catholic troops surrounding the town, and enjoy the breathtaking view clear across the sea to Africa.

The great historic cities of Andalucía - Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba - are between two and three hours drive.

swimming pool

A great location, and with class, character and comfort in abundance throughout the property and its beautiful gardens, this is a unique and very special holiday villa.
