This attractive country house is surrounded by Mediterranean woodlands with the most wonderful views of the sea, the Rock of Gibraltar and, on a clear day, the Moroccan Rif.
With wonderful countryside all around, mountains to the north and blue sea to the south, this villa is a haven for rest and relaxation.
From the coast road to Casares is an ever changing landscape from pasture, with grazing cows, to rocky limestone crags with eagles circling overhead. It’s in this setting that you’ll find this sweet holiday home with marvellous sea views.
The town of Casares is a few minutes’ drive away from the villa and is an authentic, whitewashed pueblo,!
prettily clinging to the side of the mountain. To get to the house, bypass Casares on the coast road, in the direction of Estepona and take the green and winding mountain road. The sun shines through the Mediterranean oaks – encinas – and the umbrella pines, so typical of the region. As you come around the corner you’ll marvel at the sea view in front of you and congratulate yourself on choosing a holiday here
Every bedroom has an en suite bathroom and views to the garden.
The house is accessed by a well maintained, single lane, concrete track for 1.7 km, climbing up through the pines as the hillside rolls away down to the sea. There is plenty of space for parking in front of the house which is secured by gates. The house also has an interior alarm system. The entry to the house is through a small patio courtyard and a colonnaded veranda. The veranda has been enclosed by glass, letting light in and keeping draughts out.
The villa has three double bedrooms, two in the main house and the third set somewhat apart in an annexe attached to the main house. All the bedrooms have French windows with direct access to the garden. The annexe bedroom opens directly in front of the swimming pool. All three bedrooms have ceiling fans.
The garden is a pleasant place for just reading and snoozing and cooling off with a dip in the pool.
There are French windows from the living room to a wonderful conservatory that has retractable glass ‘curtains’ which can be opened to catch a summer breeze. Earlier or later in the year, the warmth and cosiness of this ‘inside, outside’ room is incredible, it feels like you are outside, enjoying the sea view of Gibraltar and beyond, but from the comfort of being indoors. And yes, the view below is from the house. The warmth can be cranked up even more because there is a wood burner in the corner. There is plenty of space for everyone to relax here, with three sofas, two armchairs and a pouffe.
A dining table seating eight is also in this conservatory, allowing you to eat in comfort, al fresco with the glass open, or sheltered with the glass closed, as you wish. Either way, the sunsets here are amazing and form a colourful backdrop to any dining.
With the conservatory open, the pool is just an olive’s throw away. The water is accessed by shallow steps and has a cover to keep in the heat overnight. Sunbeds with cushions are provided for guests to recline and chill out in comfort.
The double bedded room in the annexe has a pitched ceiling, built-in wardrobes and en suite bathroom facilities. It is simple and sweet and refreshingly uncluttered. The bathroom comprises a walk-in shower, wc and hand basin.
The second twin-bedded room has direct access to the garden through French windows. These double glazed windows have shutters to keep out sunshine for an afternoon siesta. The en suite bathroom facilities comprise a bath tub with shower over, well-lit mirror, wc and a hand basin, all tiled in a Moorish design.
The decor of the villa is simple, happy and homely.
The kitchen is bright and cheerful and perfectly suited for a self-catering holiday. Its granite work surfaces are neat and tidy and it has everything you need to make meals for friends and family. The cooking facilities are: an electric oven with four-ring induction hob, twin sinks , fridge freezer and dishwasher. Of course, there is a toaster and kettle, coffee machine etc. along with crockery and cutlery as you would expect.
The kitchen forms part of the living room / diner with the living area having a three-seater sofa and coffee table arranged around a glass fronted wood burner. There is a flat screen TV and sound system to entertain you of an evening. The dining table, close to the kitchen, seats six.
There are other villas on the hillsides but no one overlooks the property.
The third bedroom is also a twin-bedded room with built-in wardrobes and a pitched ceiling. It also has French windows which lead out onto the garden. The bathroom is also an en suite with a bath and shower over, wc and basin. With its ceiling fans and sea breeze in the summer, the house doesn’t need air conditioning to be comfortable.
The garden is lawned and green with borders of rosemary and succulents, in keeping with the Mediterranean climate. You’ll have peace and quiet as there are no neighbours close by, although there are houses to be seen on the hillsides around. From the entrance porch, there are 18 steps up to a flat roof, an azotea, ideal for those who like to sun bathe in privacy.
The house is ideally located for the more unspoilt beaches of the Costa del Sol.
The house has a utility room where you’ll find a fridge freezer, washing machine, and a sink for laundry should you need to do any. There is also a convenient cloakroom with a wc and vanity unit/basin. There is wifi throughout the house.
The lovely village of Casares is just a few kilometres away from the villa. Here you’ll find cafés and bars and shops to stock up for your basic groceries, As you drive past the town itself there are lots of signs for hiking trails and panoramic walks, senderos. The Tourist Office is on the right hand side of the road, just before you get to the town proper.
On your way to the villa you’ll pass by some good eateries: Arroyo Hondo and The Forge, are well known restaurants for a special dinner. Ventas (roadside taverns) are common here and they serve local food economically priced. Venta Victoria is a good one and Venta MariCruz. A Spanish Menu del Dia (set menu, usually with three courses and a drink) is always reasonably priced.
Of course, a holiday is not just about eating, drinking and relaxing! There are other activities close by: beach sports, championship golf courses, shopping and nightlife as well as cultural day trips.
The beaches of the Costa del Sol are just down the road (20 minutes) or, just over an hour’s drive away are the gorgeous white beaches and water sports on the Costa de la Luz. For glitzy glamour try Marbella, Puerto Banus and Estepona for a hot night out on the town.
In the opposite direction, literally, through the dramatic mountains of the Serranía Ronda, is the culturally mind-blowing and oh-so-Spanish city of Ronda. Málaga, Jerez and Cádiz are all very much worth visiting, they are certainly do-able as day trips.
Whatever you choose to do, even if it’s nothing at all, you’ll enjoy doing it based from this panoramic villa.
