This traditional old farmhouse is now reborn as a top quality and thoroughly modern home ideal for lazy summer holidays or winter activities in this beautiful setting...
"The views from the house and the surrounding countryside are so scenic we couldnt stop looking, so peaceful and calming".
This old farmhouse has been transformed into a top quality and pleasingly modern home and is now ideally situated for long sunny summer holidays or cooler winter breaks, spending your time exploring the surrounding area or partaking in some of the many activities on offer (horse riding, biking and walking are just a few).
In a glorious pastoral scene with lovely views over the rolling hillsides of El Poniente (dotted, of course, with a million olive trees), there’s not another house anywhere near.
Yet access couldn’t be easier, along a ½ km farm track which is shared only with the occasional tractor. It’s a pleasant walk into town from here (1½ km kilometres from the property; 30 minutes to town, although longer on the way back as it’s uphill and quite a climb).
The farmhouse is set in an acre of natural woodland garden which rises up the hillside behind the property. Wildflowers, including cistus (rock roses), wild crocus, narcissus and three types of wild orchid grow among olive trees and holm oaks.
"The area is true, untouched, beautiful Spain and Montefrio has to be one of the most picturesque towns anywhere on the planet!"
Tucked into the hillside, the uninterrupted views are beautiful, across countryside which gently rolls across the horizon. Sunsets are marvellous here.
A terrace stretches the full length along the front of the house with three sets of French doors opening from the living room and kitchen.
The terrace incorporates a shaded pergola, a perfect spot for al fresco dining, overlooking the pool and beyond to the hillsides. The built-in barbecue is alongside.
The attractive swimming pool (9m x 4m) and sunbathing area, with its quality wooden sunbeds and big sunshades, are accessed by a few steps leading down from the terrace.
The remainder of the front garden is given over to olive, almond and fig trees which are incorporated into the landscaped surround.
"The house itself is of the highest quality, very well appointed, stylish and spacious with all mod-cons".
Inside, all is calm, serene and very spacious. Floors are marble, walls and ceilings painted white, neatly setting off quality furnishings under lovely wood-beamed ceilings.
It’s an airy house which remains cool even in mid summer. With a wood-burning stove in the living area and central heating throughout, it is also an ideal villa for winter lets.
The kitchen is spick and span, with lots of work space and everything you may need to prepare your meals (including a split level double oven and grill, gas hob, dishwasher and larder fridge). “A fantastic fitted out kitchen”, was one client’s comment.
It’s attractive and very well appointed, a kitchen where you will enjoy cooking. There is a small breakfast bar and French doors opening to the dining terrace outside.
"Perfect. A whole week of eating dinners on the patio, reading by the pool or in the hammock, playing backgammon, enjoying wine and the scenery".
An archway leads through to the big living / dining room. This is a very impressive room under its double height, timber-beamed ceiling. Two sets of French doors open to the terrace.
Sofas and other casual chairs are gathered around the woodburner. There is a flat screen satellite TV (Free-to-view) and DVD player. Reference and cookbooks, novels, DVD’s and board games are here for you to enjoy. A lovely wooden dining table comfortably seats eight/ten.
The sitting room leads through to a twin bedroom with an en-suite walk-in shower room. This has access to its own private terrace.
On the other side of the kitchen, the study is furnished with a good quality double sofabed, making it fully functional as a fourth bedroom, if required. Behind is an en-suite shower room which also extends through to the utility area, (washing machine, iron and board, and a small freezer).
The other two bedrooms are upstairs. The twin bedroom has an en-suite walk-in shower room. The master bedroom has a super king-sized double bed, double balcony doors – which make the best of the wonderful view – and a huge bathroom with both a walk-in shower and bath tub.
Beyond, the gallery which overlooks the living room below offers a quiet space for reading and relaxing. This bedroom also has its own private sunbathing terrace.
It’s a house of excellent quality, decorated and finished to a high standard. Simple yet stylish, one client described it as “achieving a perfect balance between homely and chic whilst all the time retaining its distinctly Spanish feel”.
Other accolades include “spacious and comfortable, homely, first class, stylish, immaculate, characterful and … just lovely!”
"We went for a couple of walks, and our friend went horse riding. Head to the top of the facing mountain. Take a bottle of bubbly! Views are breathtaking".
The owners were determined to make their home here in Spain a bit more special than the average holiday home … in this they have more than succeeded. And every year they make an improvement here, another there. It just keeps getting better and better.
The plaudits from clients keep coming in. Here is a small selection:
“Wow! This property is gorgeous, amazing! It has been built to a fabulous standard and is very spacious. We loved our trip and had a wonderful time”.
“Thank you for your assistance in booking a fabulous holiday in Montefrio. The property was perfect for a quiet two weeks away from home. We will not hesitate to book again.”
“We had the most amazing holiday. The house is so lovely and it was definitely a highlight. We feel so privileged to have spent time in such a lovely place and location. I love Montefrio, such a pretty town.
"The villa itself is extremely comfortable and very stylishly decorated. All the utilities were first class. Large and roomy with plenty of space for everyone".
Everything about the place was perfect. I really cannot fault it at all. A whole week of eating al fresco dinners on the patio, reading by the pool or in the hammock, playing backgammon, enjoying wine and the scenery without distraction.
Oh and we had a full moon while we were there so got to watch it rise up over the hillside each night. Spectacular and something I have never seen quite like that before”.
“It is a really beautiful home. It has central heating and an open fire, which really topped it off as it can be a little cold in Spain in February. Decorated to a high standard inside it felt really homely”.
“The area is true, untouched, beautiful Spain and Montefrio has to be one of the most picturesque towns anywhere on the planet! The house itself is of the highest quality, simple yet stylish and spacious”.
"The beautiful, uninterrupted views reminded me of Tuscany - but without the bus loads of tourists!"
El Poniente Granadino is still an agricultural area, rural and very pretty. The people are friendly and the lifestyle remains unhurried; welcomes are warm and genuine. The area is rich in bird life and three of the more unusual species you may see in the garden are hoopoes, azure winged magpies and golden eagles.
Montefrio, named by National Geographic as one of the top ten towns in the world for its panoramic views, has a trio of extraordinary beautiful and impressive churches and a very relaxed, easy style. It’s a charming little rural town, well worth a visit (just five minutes drive away). It offers everything you need, small shops, some beautiful buildings and a friendly atmosphere.
Aside from the local shops (butchers, fish shop, greengrocers) and supermarkets there is the excellent cheese factory, which sells local cheeses, marinated olives, hams, olive oil and local wine.
"You can walk to the nearby town of Montefrio. It is lovely as you walk down the hill, you can see the view of the town ahead".
There are many bars and restaurants in Montefrio and we cannot mention all by name, but closest to the house is Meson Coronichi which opens at lunchtime (only), Tuesday to Sunday. It is run by Sr. and Sra. Lorca who prepare the local produce beautifully.
A 20 minute drive through the countryside will take you to the main Granada to Córdoba road, so from here it’s very easy to visit either of these great cities. And, in a different direction, you will arrive quickly at the motorway which heads south to Málaga and west to Sevilla.
Mediterranean beaches on the Costa Tropical are 90 minutes drive south. Attractive little resort towns include Salobrena, La Herradura and Almuñecar. Nerja with its 16 kilometres of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water is just a little further.
Top class skiing is also approximately one and a half hours drive away in the spectacular Sierra Nevada. This can be excellent but avoid weekends, when the Granadinos swarm up from the city!
On the southern slopes of the mountains, Las Alpujarras offers amazing walking, horse riding and mountain biking.
There are also lovely walks, of course, closer to home.
Very centrally located in Andalucía, this is an ideal location for adventures beyond its boundaries. It is also a very relaxing place just “to be”. A lovely property which is universally loved by our clients who have stayed there.
