This delightfully rustic farmhouse was built some 150 years ago and has been renovated by the grandsons of its former owners with care and skill.

Its location is superb, deep in the heart of the rural, tranquil beauty of El Poniente Granadino. The views are both stunning and sweeping, encompassing the three provinces of Granada, Córdoba and Málaga.

Accessible from the little village of Fuentes de Cesna by a 1.7 kilometre track (in good condition), you drive through fields and farmlands to this little paradise of silence nested amidst hills carpeted in olive trees.

Morning Glory and roses clamber up whitewashed walls and over fences, an old vine covers one of the terraces adorned with ancient ceramic pots: everything is as it should be in a romantic, rural Andaluz cottage.

A rural idyll

Outside spaces, either in the shade of the covered terraces, on the lawned garden or by the lovely swimming pool enjoy wonderful, panoramic views.

The rustic feel has been retained throughout the house and some clever new uses have been found for the old farm implements.

Wooden doors and beams entwined with canes, nice mosaics in the entrance patio or around the mirrors, there are all sorts of charming little details. On the walls, paintings by a local artist add a colourful touch.

In summer, apart from the welcoming coolness of the house itself, you will have plenty of outside space to enjoy the panoramic views, either in the shade of the covered terraces, on the lawned garden or by the lovely swimming pool (which is fenced and gated making it an excellent choice if you have a young family).

During colder months you can savour a good book in a rocking chair by the fireplace (there’s central heating too), and enjoy the comfy feather filled duvets and the warm wooden floors in the upstairs rooms.

Peace and harmony

A perfect place for doing nothing much at all, just absorbing the soft sounds and warm sunshine of the lovely countryside all around.

And, being in El Poniente, although in “the middle of nowhere” with nothing but rural peace and harmony to enjoy, it’s nevertheless a very central location.

Bordering with three other provinces, Jaén, Córdoba and Málaga, it is situated at the heart of Andalucía, an ideal rural idyll from which to travel to many of the most beautiful areas of Southern Spain: the fabulous, historic cities of Córdoba, Sevilla and Granada, the high peaks of Sierra Nevada and the beaches of the Costa Tropical and the Costa del Sol.

The excellent and generally uncrowded motorway system makes all of them easy day trips.

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the local area on horseback, by bicycle or hiking in the surrounding hills.

Bordering with three other provinces, Jaén, Córdoba and Málaga, from here you can travel to many of the most beautiful areas of Southern Spain.

Here you are just a few kilometres from the huge embalse (reservoir) of Iznajár. Also known as the Lake of Andalucía, it hosts water sports and fishing and has its own beach at Valdearenas where you can swim, rent pedalos and canoes or learn to sail.

Its beautiful, clear blue waters are safe for children to swim or play in and there’s sand to lie on. It tends to be busier on Sundays but is usually very quiet during the week, even in the height of the season.

Nearby Fuentes de Cesna, is an authentic rural village (population 550), serving the local community in time honoured fashion. In other words, it’s facilities are rather basic! There are a few bars and a supermercado or two where you can get a few groceries.

Further afield, Iznajár is a must-see village, sitting on top of a rocky outcrop which towers up from its very own “inland sea”. It’s like an island rising from the waters.

Here there are more shops and, in either Rute or Loja, there will be everything you need. There is now an excellent restaurant, one of the very best in the whole province, in Algarinejo, 14 km from here.

For something completely different, head north to Priego de Córdoba (25 km away), a lovely town which is Andalucía at its most refined and authentic. A dignified, convivial provincial town with a beautiful historic centre and more than its fair share of marvellous baroque churches. All around, the spectacular countryside of the Subbética Natural Park.

This is also a perfect place for doing nothing much at all, just absorbing the soft sounds and warm sunshine of the lovely countryside all around.

"Just a quick note to thank you for all your assistance regarding our recent holiday to above villa. The villa and pool were absolutely lovely and looked exactly like the photographs on website. Jose and family met us and showed us to villa and ran through everything with us. What a beautiful part of Spain and such a peaceful location with outstanding views of mountains and olive groves . Loved it. We did some wine tasting in Cordoba and ate some tasty food. Weather was glorious. Thanks again and hopefully please God we'll be contacting you again in the future regarding another holiday." Philomena (Sep 2017)
