This neat little villa has some lovely outdoor spaces and great views over the tropical valley and hillsides which surround it ...
This charming little country cottage is located deep in unspoiled countryside with superb views to the distant high mountains.
This recently constructed, quality country villa is located in the heart of the tropical valley of Benamargosa, a little more than a kilometre from the pretty village of Cútar.
It’s a wonderful location, not just because of the inspiring views, but because the valley opens out not far from here (just beyond the village of Cútar) to the Mediterranean Sea.
This gives it a very special microclimate, with a cooling breeze taking the edge off extreme mid-summer temperatures and a pleasantly mild, maritime climate in winter. Being inland, the surrounding mountains protect the valley from the prevailing winds.
And, just to put the icing on the cake, the local village of Cútar (one kilometre away) is not just another pretty, whitewashed village hidden in the middle of nowhere, but a lovely, friendly place, too.
Soft, discrete lighting, restored woodwork and a Moroccan influence to the decor add character and brings everything to life.
There are about 600 people living in the village, almost all of them working the fertile lands which surround the village, growing muscatel grapes, mangoes, lemons and avocados. The rhythm of life is relaxed and tranquil, in time honoured fashion.
So near – and yet so far – from the bustle of the coastal towns.
The house is fresh, bright and pleasant, with one or two traditional elements incorporated into its essentially modern design. These include wooden doors and ceilings plus the occasional rustic touch here and there adding a little bit of country character and charm. Neat and tidy, the decoration is simple but tasteful.
Under-floor central heating augments the wood burning stove in the living room to keep it warm and cosy in winter months.
Views encompass six different mountain villages as well as the imposing range of the magnificent Tejeda mountains.
With fantastic views all around, outdoor life here is a treat. Choose between the little garden terrace, the shade of the porch, the suntrap which is the roof terrace, or the irresistible (gated and fenced) saltwater swimming pool with its surrounding terrace and loungers. A portable barbecue completes the outdoor picture.
And notwithstanding that there are two other houses in close proximity (one occupied by the property owners) there is a good feeling of privacy and tranquillity here.
Beyond the house there are plenty of possibilities to enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle to the full. All around there’s countryside which invites hiking and walking, bird watching … relaxing.
The delightful hillsides remains virgin with few fences, ideal for a country stroll or two, and why not venture down to Cútar for a beer and a tapa in one of the two traditional bars there?
Organic vegetables from the owners garden (season depending), organic honey and free-range duck eggs, organic olive oil and many other locally farmed products are available.
The owners are pleased to offer you fresh organic produce – mangos, avocados, oranges and lemons – from their own fields.
For other shopping, Benamargosa is a bigger village with more facilities, five kilometres from here.
There are several other very pretty villages around and about, all with authentic local character and, often, spectacular views. The timeless countryside of La Axarquía and the even more dramatic mountain terrain of the Montes de Málaga and Sierras de Tejeda National Parks are all close at hand, just waiting to be explored.
The magnificent 1,100 hectare El Torcal National Park is also less than an hour’s drive from here (to the south of Antequera). A massive, Mars-like mountain of eroded rock formations, the imagination plays tricks as giants, monsters and castles seem to appear before your eyes.
The nearest beaches are at Torre del Mar (40 minutes drive away), where traditional beach bars serve charcoal-grilled sardines and other great seafood.
Nerja is a little further east along the coast. More “international” with a strong British presence (you can have a curry here … ) it boasts 16 kilometres of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. And don’t forget its amazing caves, a series of huge caverns stretching for almost five kilometres and home to the world’s largest stalagmite – and, in summer, some excellent classical and flamenco performances.
Further afield, Granada (and its world famous Alhambra Palace) is not to be missed. A little closer to home, Málaga has transformed itself over recent years into a vibrant and dynamic city well worth a visit.
Our clients are always happy here; one said, “the house and pool were lovely, the surrounding countryside beautiful and the owners were really helpful. Thanks, we had a great time!”
