This traditional village house with ancient beams and exposed stone walls is situated in one of Andalucia´s most engaging little towns ...
"Rather overdue with my review but could not forget our wonderful time in this charming house in one of my favourite destinations. ZC28 was perfect for a relaxing, self-catering stay in Jimena and the owner was really kind and helpful. The house and outdoor areas are gorgeous and had everything we could possibly need. We spent a lot of time on the terrace and by the pool, enjoying the tranquility and the splendid view, and also made good use of the kitchen and dining area, having friends over for dinner which was nice to be able to do. Great sleeps too. The only downside was having to stop pretending that we lived there and come back to reality!"
Three (two twin bedded, one single).
Private swimming pool
5 m x 4 m, 1.4 m deep.
In the small hilltop town of Jimena de la Frontera in the Western Costa del Sol region (Province of Cádiz).
From 480 € to 1,090 € per week.
This rustic town house has been restored and decorated by its English owners to create a home full of old-world charm.
Traditional features, such as 300 year old beams, exposed stone walls, terracotta floors, and a white washed facade adorned with ornamental iron work have been preserved and mixed with bright ceramics and Moroccan artefacts.
It's a terraced house located on one of Jimena's winding little hillside streets. Close to the edge of the village, just below its famous castle, this house is for enjoying the best of both worlds, from complete privacy by the little swimming pool at the back of the garden to the bustling street life of one of Andalucia's most charming villages.
Small shops, tapas bars and restaurants abound in Jimena. It's a busy little place.
Downstairs are two twin bedrooms (the beds are pushed together), each with its own colourfully tiled bathroom, and a tiny third bedroom - described by one client as a bit of a thoroughfare - which opens to a patio.
The swimming pool lies further down some steps in the terraced garden. By the pool there is a tiny terrace with sun loungers which is completely private and enjoys beautiful views of the valley and mountains beyond.
On the first floor, the open-plan kitchen / dining / sitting room gives onto a wider terrace with wonderful views over the Hozgarganta river gorge to the cork-oak forested slopes of the Alcornocales Natural Park beyond. This terrace is perfect for sunbathing and dining al fresco although its low wall doesn't offer much protection so care should be taken with younger children.
The kitchen opens to a dining area which has a vaulted, beamed ceiling and a large dining table.
Jimena de la Frontera is one of the most charming of Andalucia's small towns, its 13th Century Moorish castle presiding over the pretty town houses, tapas bars, restaurants and churches which climb up the hillside.
A lovely little lane descends on the other side of the hill down through the marvellous countryside of Los Alcornocales and within minutes you will be down by the river side. Popular in summer (because one can swim in the deep pools of the Hozgarganta river), it's a very beautiful spot whatever the time of year.
From Jimena's Moorish castle there are uninterrupted views to Gibraltar, Africa beyond, and mile upon mile of fertile valleys, orange groves, forests and mountains.
The Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, which surrounds the hilltop village, is ideal for bird watching, walking, horse riding, painting and photography.
If walking in paradise is not your thing, you can choose between Mediterranean beaches on the Costa del Sol (just half an hour away) or, a little further on, the wilder beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast. Sotogrande and Tarifa are both popular choices for day trips.
For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Valderrama, Sotogrande and San Roque) close by. Or, if you are looking for something really different, how about nipping over to Morocco for the day!
Heading inland, the timeless beauty of some of Spain's most impressive Natural Parks awaits you. There are lots of charming towns and villages to discover along the way - Gaucín, Genalguacil and, further to the north, delightful old Ronda and the mountain village of Grazalema are all very attractive, lovely places, all well worth visiting.
If you don't want to take the car, try the wonderful, narrow gauge railway which runs from Jimena to Ronda, stopping at little white villages along the way.
Further afield the great historic cities of Andalucía - Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba - are between two and three hours.
The owner, a delightful English woman, has lived in the village for many years. As well as providing an information pack in the house, she will always be happy to make suggestions and recommendations.
Many clients love it here. It has no pretensions to be luxurious - what you see is what you get - a simple, traditional village house in one of Andalucia's most fascinating destinations.
Weather permitting, the swimming pool will be open throughout the year (although, because it's not heated, the normal swimming season is from late April to September, inclusive)
Because the patio only has a very low protecting wall, we do not consider this property suitable for small children
Rental start and finish days for this property are usually flexible
Parking is on the street. It's not always easy to find a space near the house during the busier months of the year
Please, no smoking indoors
A 250 Euro security deposit is required on each booking. This is held against your credit or debit card and will be cancelled one week after your holiday, subject to any reductions for breakages or damage. See Terms and Conditions for full details.
