"We have just returned from a great holiday at this beautiful House in Gaucin. We were a party of 6 adults, 2 teenage boys and baby of 8 months. The house is very special and beautifully furnished and the views from the lovely terraces are stunning. It is a great base for exploring the area including the coast and Ronda, and lovely to return to Gaucin for an afternoon by the pool and an evening in one of the Tapas bars in town. We ate out a several bars in town and had fantastic food and service, all extremely good value. The house was within easy reach of the centre, and the local shops and supermarket offer a very good choice for self catering. You have to be brave and think thin to drive in the narrow streets of Gaucin, but it was all part of the fun! It was a really memorable holiday!"
"Many thanks for allowing us to share your glorious house, even just for a week. From the time we arrived in Gaucin we felt relaxed and totally chilled. Our Grandchildren loved every aspect from the playroom to the pool, the shade at the pool meant that baby Arthur could sit under the trees with Granddad and all the rest could play in the pool. We, the Grandparents, slept in the garden room, as we called it, and did not hear any baby cries for a feed at 2am!! We favoured the top patio for all meals, usually we eat out in the evening 4-5 times, but this holiday we only ate out once in the evening. I could go on for ever, it really is a great place. Gaucin is a delight, half way through the week we found the indoor market and spent the next few days eating fresh fish from the nearby coast. We all came back from holiday with left over Euros, because everything was cheaper than we expected, long may it continue. We will be back. Thanks again. "
"3 of us spent a lovely week in Gaucin at this delightful, secluded spot overlooking broad stretches of beautiful water with sights to Gibraltar and Morocco! We enjoyed spending time on all three outdoor levels, drinking lemonade from the shower from the lemon tree! Gaucin itself is delightful and has some lovely restaurants and very friendly people. The house would be lovely for families and there's lots of CDs, games, TV room, etc. The private guest house featured its own rooster in the backyard! It was tastefully decorated and the kitchen was very good size for a Spanish house.
Wish I could go back and do some outdoor grilling and have lazy afternoons sipping Spanish wine and enjoying the views!"

Rustic, but contemporary with every modern facility, this spacious town house is set in a quiet part of the stunning mountain-top village of Gaucín.
Here you are right in the heart of one of Andalucía's classic white villages. Its narrow winding streets, hidden alleyways, spectacular views and fabulous light have long been an inspiration for painters and photographers.
Located at the edge of the village below the castle and close to all local amenities, the house has a private swimming pool and spectacular, uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and Morocco. It's lovely!
Recently refurbished, it is stylishly designed and very well furnished. It's a real home - complete with books, board games, pictures and everything one needs for 21st Century living.
A haven of tranquility
Although in the heart of the village it's as peaceful as can be, a place to spend afternoons lounging and reading by the pool or dining out under the stars.
One enters the house from the street on the ground floor through magnificent double doors made of solid chestnut.
The open-plan main living / dining room is divided by huge rustic arches, a feature of the original house which was formerly a bodega. Beneath the exposed timber ceiling it is comfortably furnished with sofas, and hand-knotted oriental rugs and carpets laid on the terracotta tiled floor. For dining, the large marble table seats eight.
There Is an open fireplace in the corner and the room is fully wired for sound (there are discrete speakers in each corner) from the Hi FI.
The traditional, thick walls ensure that even on the hottest of days of mid summer, the house remains comfortably cool.
A little bit of paradise
Views are breathtaking - over the Genal valley far below and to Gibraltar, the Mediterranean and Morocco beyond.
Double doors lead from the living area to a large furnished terrace, partly covered for shade, a great spot to while away dreamy days and nights, contemplating the magnificent views over sublime countryside to Gibraltar and the distant African coast.
Beyond the dining area, the solid chestnut, craftsman-built kitchen has solid granite work surfaces and is fully equipped with all the appliances, equipment and crockery you will need.
There is a small breakfast bar with five teak wood stools.
Also on the ground floor, an attractive second living / TV room features a Moroccan archway, and houses a large LCD Television, a DVD player and a library of DVD's. Leading from this room there is a washroom with shower and toilet.
Three large bedrooms, two doubles and one twin, are upstairs. One of the timber beamed doubles has an en-suite bathroom (with twin basins, shower cubicle and shower over a large bathtub) and enjoys spectacular bed–time views from its own private, furnished terrace. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom (rain head shower over bathtub) between them.
A perfect escape
As one client said, "The garden is stunning and we loved the style and furnishings in the interior of the house as well. When you add all that to the views of Gibraltar and beyond it’s a fantastic combination".
A series of delightful terracotta garden terraces tumble down below and behind the house.
The fourth bedroom, which is accessed from the lemon tree terrace, is a lovely, double bedded room with en–suite bathroom (walk-in shower). The entrance is conveniently just outside and adjacent to the garden door of the property.
The main upper terrace is a great place to enjoy al-fresco outdoor life, Spanish style. Built around a mature lemon tree this terrace consists of two dining / sitting areas.
A timber pergola with Moroccan arches overlooks the pool below, a place to spend hot afternoons dozing in one of the hammocks or enjoying a long lunch in the shade around the rustic oak dining table.
There is also another open seating area perfect for when the heat of the sun has subsided and the barbecue is lit!
A Mediterranean Eden
The garden and pool is the owners version of a Mediterranean Garden of Eden.
The curved pool (approx. 8m x 4m) is designed to allow one to swim beneath a beautiful arching palm tree and its surrounding flower beds. Wide steps lead into the shallow end.
Sunloungers and outdoor seating are provided and you can choose between improving your tan on the sun terrace or shading yourself from the mid-day heat in the cooler parts of the garden.
A jasmine-covered entrance in the high wall at the bottom of the garden leads out to a footpath which will take you down the hillside and out of the village.
The charm of the village

It's just a couple of minutes walk from here to the restaurants, tapas bars and shops of the village. Gaucín is one of Spain's most beautiful pueblos blancos, spectacularly situated on a mountain ridge, 629 meters above sea level.
Views are breathtaking over the Genal valley to Gibraltar, the Mediterranean and Morocco.
Gaucín is not only very pretty, it is also very well situated. Surrounded by nature reserves like the Sierra de Grazalema, Los Alcornocales and the Sierra de las Nieves, there's plenty of wonderful walking and wildlife.
A beautiful 45 minute drive will take you across the mountains to Ronda, brimming with history and interest. The Mediterranean, with its many beaches, golf courses and lively marinas is less than 30 minutes away. If you wish, visit a different world, just take a boat trip to Tangiers in North Africa! Other scenic drives will take you to Sevilla, Jerez or Cadiz.
And back, of course, to this lovely village house with its character and charm. A mountain top retreat from the real world, a little bit of paradise.

Since 2016, the mature fig tree featured in some of the photos has been replaced by several other trees.

Children are very welcome - the house is equipped with a selection of toys and children's DVDs, but parents of very young children should be aware that there are several flights of stairs down through the garden and an staircase in the living room (now with a wrough iron banister. The pool area can however be securely separated behind a gate (lock and key in house key cupboard).

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.
Excursions
- La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
- Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
- Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
- Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
- A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
- Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
- Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
- One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
- A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
- Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
- The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
- There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
- Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
- Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

- Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
- The village has an excellent municipal swimming pool, a tennis court and gymnasium.
- For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Finca Cortesin, Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 50 minutes drive.
- On the coast (both the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz) there’s every beach pursuit imaginable, from sailing and windsurfing, diving and snorkelling to whale and dolphin watching.
