Villa Description
Carefully and traditionally restored - with chestnut beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, old restored doors and hand-glazed local tiles - this property is full of character, simply but comfortably furnished in a homely, rustic style with kilim rugs and paintings by local artists.
Arranged on two floors with the living space downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs, it also has access to a a roof terrace on the floor above.
The antique front door opens to a cosy sitting room with a wood burning stove and beamed ceiling. Pastel colours are complimented by soft, indirect lighting.
There is a separate, arched dining area leading through to the well equipped kitchen. Beyond, the small internal patio (with a small splash pool) has a Moroccan tiled table for outdoor eating. A lovely spot to take a leisurely breakfast.
The two bedrooms (one double, one twin bedded) are upstairs. Very pleasant rooms, they have lots of character and both have en-suite bathrooms (one with a bath tub with shower over, the other with a shower only)
The double also has a little terrace from which you can enjoy the glorious landscape all around.
Steep stairs take you up to the roof terrace which is totally private for sunbathing. A good place to relax with a drink too, admiring the fabulous views which extend from the top of the village (with the castle high above), across the roof tops and all the way to the Rock of Gibraltar and Morocco across the sea. It's quite a panorama!
One of two stylish village houses converted from a 17th century olive mill, these uninterrupted terrace views over the fig, lemon and orange trees to the sublime countryside beyond is the icing on the cake in this pretty and welcoming home.
Situated in a traffic free street on the edge of Gaucín, the only rush-hour "noise" you will hear is from the neighbours passing by on their mules or donkeys, off to spend the day on their ‘fincas'.
Yet the house is only a few minutes walk away from shops, tapas bars, restaurants (ranging from wholesome peasant cooking to sophisticated ‘haute-cuisine') and the excellent municipal swimming pool and tennis court.
Gaucín is one of Spain's most beautiful pueblos blancos, spectacularly situated on a mountain ridge, 629 meters above sea level. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside so there's plenty of wonderful walking and wildlife. It has just about all the facilities you will need - small shops, a chemist, banks and, of course, several bars and restaurants.
And, as everywhere in Andalucía, more than its fair share of fiestas, traditional Saints days and processions, each an excuse for merrymaking and dancing.
It is also an ideal base for day trips to towns like Ronda, Jerez, Cádiz and Sevilla. There are delightful little villages to explore, Mediterranean beaches are half an hour's drive away; the Atlantic coast with its fine white sand and famous wind surfing is one and a half hours drive.
As one of our clients who stayed at the house said, "it was simply perfect for our needs".
